The aesthetics of the Mackinac Bridge are unmatched. It rises up between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron in a pretty remote area. Thanks to the zebra mussel, the water is crystal clear and looks tropical from the bridge looking down. Most of northern lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula is federal and state forests in addition to hundreds of thousands of forested acres ownded by lumber companies. On Labor Day some 65,000 people walk across the bridge including the Governor. In 2007 the bridge will be 50 years old! Lots of good reasons for the Islamofascists to destroy.

The Middle Eastern terrorist suspects reside in the Dallas area.....although a conservative city overall we have quite a few foreigners (and Latin illegals) who live here. Then again, what major USA city doesn't these days. Sorry Michigan that these creeps come from my city....glad they are caught. Looks like the terrorists have multiple acts planned in the future.

I don't think they wanted to drop the bridge but to kill all those 50-60 thousand walkers due to cross over it on September 4, 2006. That would cause a much higher body count than on 9/11. Just station about 200 suicide bombers among the walkers and it would be a carnage only bin Laden could dream about. Tens of thousands. They have how many Muslims in that area so they they wouldn't be suspicious.

Unlike these days of quotas and affirmative action, that bridge was built RIGHT, not "correctly", or not by people who's purpose is to "look like America".

Considering that the designers, no doubt, considered a gasoline tanker exploding on the deck, the Muzzies will have to top that one. They probably could with an 18-wheeler full of C-4 (or something with a big bang), but now that the cat's out of the bag on this plot, they'll have to do it on some day other than Labor Day.

You know, I'm getting sick of this crap. Let's just round all of these guys up and send them back to the Middle East. Then they can run around screaming Allah Akabar, or whatever, and blow up whatever they want, if that's how they want to express themselves. Moderate, non-violent Muslims are in a precarious position. God forbid if more terrorist acts trigger in the USA they will face a backlash from the public like never before even if undeserved due to affiliation. This may be a drastic statement but we may need to outlaw Islam and deport it's practitioners. Israel had to kick out the radical Palestinians to help prevent homicidal bombings.

I've been across the bridge. You're right...it's beautiful. I'm just not sure that it's that much of a strategic target.

Maybe during the walk it could be a pretty big deal, but I just don't see it as a strategic target.

That's what makes me wonder how many other targets are planned. If they're going to go to the trouble to take out this bridge, they must be planning some more visible targeting.

Ok, let's not get too specific with your answers, but I'm curious. (Hey, Fox news just pronounced it "MackiNAW"! correctly!)

Severing the cables wouldn't bring it down. The towers would. Impossible to linger anywhere near long enough to plant anything, surveillance is pretty beefed up. So, how would they do it? Planes?

Anyone else here always hold their feet up when they cross the bridge? I find cruise control very handy when driving across the Mighty Mac!

I doubt snow but think its for aerodynamics - to keep the bridge from flying in high winds - like Galloping Gertie did over the Tacoma Narrows.

I think that is the only obvious and rational conclusion that could be drawn. The American people were circumspect on 9/11 not wanting to blame someone. Let another 9/11 happen and Katy bar the doors. It will probably come down to vigilante justice meted out with a rope over the nearest oak tree. I hate to see it come to this but I don't see any way around it. That's why I have advocated barring further Muslim entry into the United States and paying for a one way ticket back to the ME for those already here. Then they can do their own thing like blowing people up and sawing off heads. We don't need that barbariety here. Islam is not compatible with civilization. In fact, it is the antithesis of civilization.

Islam is a license to murder, pillage and commit all around mayhem and it happens every day somewhere in the world. And it is virtually 100% Muslims. Is there a pattern here? I think so. What are you talking about? Search Google News for Mackinac Bridge. The first hit leads to 559 stories in all the media. The MSM is covering it thoroughly. Check before you write.

What I haven't read, is why 1,000 cell phones were needed. Where they planning on making 1,000 remote control bombs? It seems it would be pretty difficult to conceal 1,000 bombs on the bridge. Any better ideas?

While that's fairly important to folks living on the U.P., that affects a pretty small number of people, really.

Excuse me, but I believe they are having some sort of walk-a -thon or something similar on that bridge today. That means about 65,000 people walking on the bridge. You wouldn't have to take the bridge down, a few well placed IEDs detonated by cell phone would do the trick, or detonated by a timing device made by cell phone chips, or by simply using the alarm feature of the phone to set it off.

I couldn't speculate on how to bring it down better than yourself or anyone else.

But I do think that it's safe to say that an incident like that (during the bridge walk), done by our home-grown Dearborn bunch would show Islam a side of Western culture that they NEVER thought existed (i.e., they weren't here during World War 2). They will find that all the talk by the Imams (I love that word) about the Infidel being weak was misplaced.

I whole lot of us feel that they've had their shot at living in Western society by the rules, and were given ample chances at redemption. They punted. We (the send them home bunch of real Americans) are still a minority, but our numbers will grow fast and we WILL send them home if they misbehave big-time here. It's just a short matter of time to get the right political leadership in place, but a whole bunch of use are just about ready to strike (politically, of course).
