The FBI, Homeland Security and police are investigating a suspicious purchase of cell phones at a Wal-Mart in Caro, Mich.
Three men were arrested Friday on suspicion of buying more than 1,000 cell pones, Local 4 reported.
The Nokia Tracfones cost about $20, and customers receive a phone plus 40 minutes of airtime. Also, the phones do not have to be registered to a name, the station reported. These are the same type of phones connected to terror charges against two Dearborn men arrested in Ohio, according to the station's report.

Plot to Disrupt Next Season’s “American Idol” Thwarted
A scheme to disrupt next season’s “American Idol” was thwarted when an alert Wal-Mart employee grew suspicious and called Tuscola County central dispatch. The police apprehended three Middle Eastern men and confiscated 1000 cell phones the men had bought on a cross-country shopping spree.
Under the threat of being deported to Palestine the men confessed to being part of an al-Qaeda plot to jam the phone lines during the viewer voting phase of the “American Idol” with votes for the ugliest and least talented contestant in order to “break the morale of the decadent infidels.”
The phones were Nokia TracFones selling for $20 apiece. The TracFones are a nationwide prepaid wireless phone service and are even offered with international long distance.

I would think any reasonable-minded person would conclude from the overwhelming evidence that there is a serious issue here, that there is definitely something going on and everybody needs to be on alert particulary heading up to fifth anniversary of 9-11.

Then ban the phones in the US period. Two Muslims with a 1000 phones at 20 bucks each plus tax. How here blow 20K plus on disposable phones? Follow the money.
They're all over the place. There's a map going around the internet somewhere. Also, don't forget that sleeper cells like cell phones.
No, this is where I think our CIA or NSA needs to step up to the plate and earn their reputations back. It should be a pretty straighforward spy job to gather up all the numbers of these throwaway phones. You now have a short list of phones to agressively monitor, that is, in the form of "record everything". Next those phones need to be randomly dialed at least daily "with an important political announcement" from some candidate the agency has a beef with. Either that or a candidate that wants to cooperate with protecting our nation's safety while getting a free message campaign out of it.
What we've got here is the electronic equivalent of a well-marked animal trail, which any good trapper would recognize as a prime spot for placing a snare. Enemies of freedom want to use throwaway phones? Fine. Let's render them very very very unsafe as possible detonators, and record their lousy planning sessions at the same time.

Drug dealers use a lot of "burner" (i.e. discardable) cell phones. Could be these guys are reselling to that market.

An excellent thought - - perhaps these guys are arbitraging like Tyson's, which takes whole chickens and repackages them in various parts to increase the margin on the final sale to users. Some people like breasts, others like legs, others want less expensive hot dogs and luncheon meat. Tyson's and similar marketers, serves them all.
Saw a guy on CSpan this morning saying this was no big deal, they were certainly buying them to sell, just doing business. I couldn't believe the host didn't jump over the table and slap him silly. I probably would have. Guess that's why I don't get to be a host.

I've been through that airport on two different occasions, and it's basically operated by Muslims. You see a female working there, she's got the headgear. Pick anything there, the food court, a Starbucks, the magazine shop. I don't know anything about the population there in Detroit, but I suspect the Muslims must be the majority.
