>>Fidelismo is less Communist than it is personalist. One suspects Castro would have been equally at home as a fascist - if the temperament of the times had allowed it.

There isn't a nickel's difference between fascists and communists. See the third quote on my profile page, the two-paragraph one by Hayek.

Communists don't believe in a hereafter: so of course the popular Fidel doesn't worry about Cuba after his own demise.

I hate to pile on, but you really SHOULD read an article before commenting on it.

Well, unfortunately there are historians today who "beleive" in the "dream" of Fidel. They call it "Fidelismo." They cannot be cured of their error.

Of course he doesn't... it was always about HIM.

Thanks for posting this, I will definitely read the entire thing later.

Actually, I think the difference is a free enterprise system...as in:

China? With it's now free enterprise system...so we've got fascism or a form of it...instead of communism...that's the major difference...the economy of a country...Cuba has none...and owns everything...that's not true of China, is it?

What is it with Gallegos and dictators. Both Castro and Franco had ties to Galicia, and so do I. My Grandfather and Grandmother were from Galicia and immigrrated to Cuba where they gave birth to my dad, so it seems I my have some dictator blood in me, too.

Schrödinger's cat:
HAVANA - Fidel Castro is sitting up, walking, talking and even working some during his recovery from intestinal surgery that forced him to step aside temporarily as president, the Communist Party newspaper said Saturday on the eve of the leader's 80th birthday. The report on the front page of Granma was the most optimistic report since the July 31 announcement that Cuba's longtime leader had undergone surgery and was temporarily ceding presidential powers to his brother Raul, the No. 2 in the government.

Read up on Schrödinger's cat. The theory goes that the cat is dead and alive at the same time. It depends on when you open the box and look at the cat (Fidel).

If I had been Bush 41, I would have thrown Castro into a Miami jail cell - right next to Noriega and Saddam - two seconds after the collapse of his Soviet protectors, where his obituary would be a footnote.

As far as this statement by Chavez: "But his closest ally, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said Thursday "that the Cuban leader is in "a great battle for life." He also said he was confident that Castro would recover."

I now believe it was a CON devised by Fidel and Hugo...as Fidel appears at his birthday celebration tomorrow...they'll both be laughing at the world and especially Cuban-Americans whom have believed the Cuban Dictator was dead or very near death.

The fact is, he doesn't care about Cuba and never did.

The world will be happy to be rid of this dictator.

I've thought a lot about why Reagan didn't include Fidel in the take-down of the Soviet Union...after much thought, I believe that with the take-down of the Soviet Union...Reagan believed without a doubt...this would also take-down Fidel.

I agree...why didn't 41 arrest him and put him behind bars for the rest of his life?

Good read, very interesting stuff. Strange parallels between Castro and Hitler over and over.
