Zell's analogy of finding a copperhead nest at his home is applicable here. When he found the viper's nest near where his grandchildren and family play and rest, he wasn't going to wait for them to strike. He killed the vipers before damage could be done.

So, this would be like saying that him wanting to protect his family is the reason they would want to strike.....but NO. The vipers strike because that is what they do.
