The only way to beat the terrorists is to throw out political correctness, face reality and realize who the enemy is. We need to squash those who support and finance them (Iran, Syria, etc.).
Making assertions as to why the Islamisic militant jihadists will never win, and making sure they damn sure DON'T win, are two separate propositions.
If not stopped sometime soon, they could make life unpleasant for most of the 80% or so of the people in the world who are NOT Muslim, and for just about all the people who ARE Muslim.
For the greatest danger to Muslims is not their non-Muslim neighbors, but from other more fanatical Muslims. And no question, should the Islamic fascists fail to bend the world to their will, they shall surely turn inward against their more compliant brethren, scourging them for their lack of fierce zeal in defending and extending the reach of their faith.
Anything the rags can do, we can do better. So if they can disrupt us by blowing things up, we can blow up ten things for their every one. If they can behead soldiers, so can we. If they hide among the populace and murder children in the name of their cause, so can we. And if they can claim some moral exemption from their deeds, because their motives are "pure," then so can we.
When you consider that there are substantially more of us than there are of them, each of their losses is proportionally greater. Eventually, they will be reduced to an occasional rabid zealot blowing himself up in a deserted grocery store parking lot.

While the long range likelihood that the Islamofascists will fail by the sheer weight of their campaign against modernity is quite plausible, there is no reason whatsoever why any of the Western powers should hesitate even one minute to kill them. To hesitate, to wait for reality to dawn on those butchers, is to throw away the hopes and lives of the many who will perish at their hands. Theorizing is fine and often welcome, until it interferes with the actual work that must be done.
