And the truth of that lies in defeating it by driving back the islamic hordes to the middle east. The other part of that truth is that all commerce with such nations needs to cease. The withdrawal of our troops is the wrong thing to do right now, but the withdrawal of our American dollars and reinvestment here at home is the right thing to do for now.
I hate feeling that each time I fill up my tank of gas I am funding a terrorist state, regime, or militia.
2...MINUTES...TO MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDNIGHT!
The hands that threaten DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
You have nothing to negotiate with, you can't offer them Paradise.
Enough of Condi talking. You can't reason with nut cases. And, it doesn't do any good to talk to the Lebanese government, but they are a puppet of Iran. I still hope that John Bolton and Condi's effort would pay off, but there is a time to realize that talk is over.
Israel's move towards a ground offensive is a signal that they aren't waiting around for everyone else to talk...and talk...and talk.
Ahmanutjob has already made his strategy clear --he wants Israel wiped off the map and he refuses to stop nuclear development. I think it is pretty clear what 1+1 is. What else is there to talk about?
Sobering article.
It looks midnight will be on August 22nd. The skies over Israel will be lit up, according to Iran.
That's 11 days, give or take a few hours.
I do not think President Bush will allow any specific attack to occur that he can prevent, regardless of the political consequences. But, without knowing details about the planned attack, it is not clear what action would head it off.
The situation is similar to November of 1941. President Roosevelt is widely thought to have had advance intel letting him know Japan was about to do something, but chose to do nothing anyway (it is not clear he knew where/when the attack would actually come). The REPUBLICANS were in full isolationist mode, and he could not make a move until his hand was stronger.
We face a similar "Pearl Harbor" situation today. President Bush does not have the political support he would need to start a general war with Iran. Absent a clear, specific, and imminent threat, including enough details for us to be able take actions that will head it off, President Bush's hands are tied.
I don't know the future, but here's a prediction: Iran plans a series of terrorist attacks between now and August 22nd. The hope is to provoke a response that can be used to justify whatever outrages follow. But even if no response is provoked, the subsequent attacks will occur.
Then, the night of August 21/22, Iran plans to launch a multiple missile barrage designed to overwhelm Israel's missile defenses. Mixed in somewhere after the first hundred or so missiles have been fired will be at least one missile with a nuclear warhead. They think this missile is likely to get through, and part of Israel will be vaporized.
We know this, and have a prepared response ready. Five minutes after the missile barrage starts a preplanned U.S. strike will be under way. If we are lucky, the U.S. response will be fast enough, and strong enough, to keep the Iranian plan from succeeding.
The next Pearl Harbor could be 11 days away. We see it coming. Perhaps this time we will be able to avoid getting hit so hard when the wake-up blow is delivered.
Duh as to the Chinese. They have intelligence agents there right now disguised as UN Forces helping Hezbollah. They supplied the silkworm missles Hezbollah used on the Israeli frigate and the tanker.
We have had "order" in the middle east since WWII. It resulted in 911. That "order" has just been a lid on a boiling pot. The longer it stays on, the bigger the explosion when it goes.
The chaos is and has, for a long time, been inevitible. Better we fight it at our time and on our terms.
So you pose a false dichotomy. Order or chaos. It brings to mind Churchill's words about Chamberlin (and I paraphrase): "Mr Chamberlin chose between dishonor and war. He chose dishonor. He will get war."
Our left and the tiny Buchanan right thinks they are choosing between order and chaos. They choose delusory order. They will get chaos. Hopefully, we will have a real president and not a John Kerry when the explosion comes.
I agree. Withdraw dollars, not troops.
Islam does not play well with others....
BTTT for a great article
We are doomed if the democrats gain control of our government in the next election. If they win they will run straight to the UN and give that corrupt organization full control over our foreign policy. When that happens we will be forced to fight an Iran that has a nuclear arsenal to use against us.The American people will have to choose between fighting the enemy or cowering in fear when they cast their vote in the next election.
I think you're right, but there will be a lot more destroyed than a few sand Nazis. This has the potential to turn the entire post WW2 framework on its head.
The potential consequences are staggering. We talk about kicking out the UN, for example, but for better or worse they've helped stabilize the post WW2 world. This has the potential to blow the UN apart.
While I am not a supporter of the UN, I can see there are consequences. We'll see a realignment of the countries of the world along different lines. A lot of Europe will be on the other side of the line from us.
Selling weapons and providing technicians doesn't say they're willing to risk all for Iran.
Go to war again.
Blood is freedoms stain.
Don't you pray for my soul anymore.

MAIDEN!!!

One of my favorite images is of a poster with a picture of a huge, mean junkyard dog and, at the bottom, the saying "Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice Doggie" until you can find a big rock." - and that Bush is either listening to, or hamstrung by, those idiots.
I hope and pray that we are gathering lots of rocks, and getting ready to use them before the Mideast's junkyard dog and its hangers-on get any stronger. My fear is that the State Dept. operates under the premise that "Diplomacy is the art of talking and signing useless agreements with very disagreeable people, so as to appear useful until one is eligible for a pension."
bttt
While reading your post a though occurred to me: the Hezbollah attacks in the north of Israel have served to drive a quarter of the population south thus concentrating the Isaeli citizenry into a smaller target area and making any WMD attack far more likely to achieve the desired result of killing significant masses of Jews.
This whole situation is making me paranoid (with good reason) beyond belief.
Re: Post 57:
the phrase "- and that Bush is either listening to, or hamstrung by, those idiots." is misplaced. This is what should have appeared:
