This was definately the case yesterday. And it seemed that the harder they were trying to get caught up, the further they go behind.
The thing that amazed me was how easy it was to get through security. I have a routine that I do when going through. 3 bins, laptop bag in one, laptop in the second, shoes, belt and remaining in thrid. I can break it all down in about 20 seconds. I went through without a hint of delay.
I doubt I'll ever board a commercial aircraft again, but back in my free, Space-A flying days, usually on backpacking trips, I'd check all the heavy gear except small expensive stuff, GPS, camera, two ways, etc.
Those, a book, water, snacks, all trip paper work, change, wallet, keys and all other pocket litter went into my daypack.
Slide out from under it, toss it on the conveyor, strap it back on on the other end, no fuss, no muss.
I also learned to check my heavy boots and wear easy on/easy off sneakers through security.
