Remember a couple of years ago there was a rumor that the terrorists were going to all "move in" to apartments all over the USA...and then blow them up simultaneously?
That was supposed to be a real "WOW" factor plot.
If aircraft were the only targets, and if there isn't some operational concern that bringing down ten planes addresses that I've missed, then this op wasn't aimed at our will, it was aimed at UK and Italian will, ala Spain.
I think AQ is more behind the recent plot than Iran. This has been in the works for months, with links to Pakistan. Given the connections to Bojinka and the fact that all the guys involved are Sunni, this doesn't appear to be an Iranian op. I could be wrong though.

Funny, a lot of Iraqi Shiite Imams think it's immoral to get political the way the Iranian ones do....And there used to be guys like that in Iran, too, but the current administration didn't want to hear about it...a lot of those either shut up, or were shut up...

As long as the UN resolution puts Lebanese troops on the border...and the Lebanese government making decisions about who is armed...they are IN...because Lebanon IS Hezbollah.

17th C New England is a great study. I have researched over 100 9th great grandparents that settled there arriving 1621 to 1630s. I have researched them back to the Middle Ages in England.
(no not Mormon) I question and research the research as there are so many errors.
I also have several 9th great grandparents that settled in New Amsterdam (NYC) in early 1600s.
Considering how Pakistani Sunnis feel about Shiites, I suspect you are right...if they were getting funding/nudging from Iran, it went through levels of people who would have hidden that fact, I suspect.
