I think AQ is more behind the recent plot than Iran. This has been in the works for months, with links to Pakistan. Given the connections to Bojinka and the fact that all the guys involved are Sunni, this doesn't appear to be an Iranian op. I could be wrong though.
Considering how Pakistani Sunnis feel about Shiites, I suspect you are right...if they were getting funding/nudging from Iran, it went through levels of people who would have hidden that fact, I suspect.
