Love is a Battlefield
IDF soldier received heart shaped cookie somewhere near the Lebanon border...
The war never ends over there. Israel has built a buffer and may have reinforcements from the rest of the world to police what's left. That would definitely be an improvement. As we're seeing in Iraq, when you're surrounded by fanatics about the best you can do is keep coming out ahead, and Israel is definitely come out ahead.
Well... looks like a win for the terrorists...
Just Damn!
You pegged it..
Yes it is. Israel just spent a lot of munitions, and doesn't have a lot in store.
In about 10 minutes I think.
Not sure about that. Remember the whole Nixon and Meir understanding concerning Israel's nuclear program?
Text of draft U.N. resolution on Lebanon war
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14307971/
IF the soldiers are not unconditionally released in THIS resolution...and OLMERT still accepted it...
I would expect every soldier in Israel to lay down their weapons. That was the trigger for this...and Olmert can just forsake them...like he did the residents of Gaza???
Looks like he did just that.
Got to step away now and pray.
No, it doesn't upset me in the least.
But, in this "war" George W. Bush did everything right. He held off the world so Israel could fight and crush the Hezbos.
I am very proud of our President. He again has proven to be the right man at the right time.
Olmert, on the other hand, has brought disgrace to Israel and put her people at even greater risk.
But Israel had already left Lebanon 6 yrs ago. They obviously have no desire to return there. I don't see why this a surprise. Israel left Lebanon in 2000. They left Gaza in 2005 and if Olmert has his way, they'll leave the West Bank in the next couple of years as well. This was never designed to be an operation to eliminate Hezbollah. It was designed to be an operation to end the rocket fire and get the soliders back. Since the Israeli govt had no desire to occupy Lebanon with 40000+ troops, having the UN put 15K in there and having the rockets stop after pounding Hezbollah for a month was a deal they'd take.
This is far from over. The resolution doesn't call for an immediate withdrawal. It calls for a phased withdrawal and if Hezbollah starts up or doesn't stop, then the whole thing is off.
YOU are totally reading this all wrong...and where have you been?
Have you been stating these views on these threads everyday?? I don't remember you being here every day...so how do I know you aren't just taking this opportunity to come slam President Bush??
What does that post have to do with Bush?
I'm not reading this wrong and I'll ignore your cheap shot, and FYI, there are tons of threads out there on the actual events as they are happening. Not everyone uses the middle east thread to discuss the latest developments in Israel.
(Go Israel, Go! Slap 'Em Down Hezbullies.)
IMHO...I think you are correct in everything you say. What a despicable mess this has become. This war against the deathwish crowd HAS to be fought. What's the point in putting it off for awhile. That's all this resolution crap does. THEY are doing everything they can to fight this war, and WE are not. Sorry, but that's how I see it. This war is all free people's war, and the free people's response has been lacking.
I've read a couple of Rosenberg's books..they're good..and realistic. Russia and Iran..no doubt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've read them also, in fact I think I'll pull them out and re-read again soon. Very timely.
I have to believe that before this thing started - the US knew exactly how far israel was willing to go. we shaped our support message for them over these past few weeks, knowing that the endgame wasn't going to involve the total devastation of hezbollah. as such, this is how it ends.
now, Olmert may well come out now and blame the US for "stopping him" - to buy him political cover. but its baloney.
