One part of it has to react to the other ... therefore that part can be "sniffed".

Coke and Tums are not going to take out a plane ...

A chemical reaction requires at a minimum two chemicals that react. There are innocuous substances that presently can not be sniffed which when combined chemically can be detonated. There are even innocuous chemicasl that can't be sniffed that don't need a detonator. That's why you can't take that bottle of Powerade on the plane any more.

No, but according to Mythbusters, Diet Coke and Mentos might be able to do so ;-).
