What sort of price do you pay then for Irish cheese?

###

The Irish cheeses are generally about nine dollars a pound. Americans refused to change to the metric system. It is funny to see the price tag because it is measured in decimal points of a pound, for example: .568 lb.

I don't have cabinet pictures to post tonight, but did read an interesting article today. I don't think I have seen this one posted by our favorite article finder, Deb. I read this in Newsweek today while my tires were being rotated. I am going to excerpt the part I found most interesting, but actually I did find the whole article of interest. It is called "Backstage at the Crisis (it is about the G8)"

Here is the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13988981/site/newsweek/

Here is the excerpt:

Saturday, July 15: The Bear Hug

"The next day, at Bush's base on the grounds of the Konstantinovsky Palace, the mood is much more tense. The cold war may be ancient history, but Secret Service agents believe the president and his aides are under surveillance at all times. They have ordered White House staffers to hand in their BlackBerrys and cell phones so Russian spies can't track their conversations. Russian security refuses to allow a sweep for bugs at "the cottage"—a McMansion-style villa complete with a pool and weight room. Hovering above the ground nearby is a white communications balloon that Bush's aides believe is recording everything they say outdoors. The only totally secure place is the president's armored, soundproofed limo, which the White House has airlifted to Russia. Whenever Bush's advisers want to strategize about Putin, they're forced to sit in the car, parked in the driveway. Inside one of the cottage's rooms, the Secret Service has set up a black tent, where aides can handle classified documents out of sight of any cameras buried in the walls or furniture. Bush is especially guarded as he waits outside for Putin to pick him up for the short trip to the villa where they will hold their talks. As host of the summit, the Russian leader has decided to ferry Bush around in a golf cart, which Putin insists on piloting himself. NEWSWEEK asks whether Putin maintains his dour KGB face in private, or whether he is more relaxed behind closed doors. Bush looks up at the spy balloon and states clearly, "That's your phrase, not mine."

I found this bit really fascinating! Now I will go back and read the tonight's Dose. :)

Thanks for the Towers collage, bitt. Sometimes we need to be reminded that those victims had faces.

I'm looking closer .. am I missing Laura?

Nope, no Laura in this one. Just the Bush men: George H.W. (father), Jeb (brother) and Barney (adopted son - hey, we know how Dubya loves those woofers).

But you've inspired my next creation. We'll put one teeny little Laura in there and see who can find her. What better follow-up to "Find W." than "Find Laura"? Sort of like "Where's Waldo." And whoever finds her first wins ....

Well, I don't know what they win. Haven't thought about that yet. Bonus points to find the other Bush women: Jenna, Barbara (daughter), Barbara (mother), or Spot and Ms. Beazley (adopted daughters). Better than Waldo's accessories any day.

It takes me forever to make these things, but come to think of it, there is one photo of Barbara (mother) in "Dubya Mania" (my first attempt). You can practice there. LOL.

I hope you won't take this as my interfering with your artistic process, but there are 3 photos I think define President Bush. They represent the moment he captured Americans' hearts. Perhaps not forever, but I think there's more residual fondness there than the media likes to admit.

Ground Zero

National Cathedral...
Here I can't decide which is more definitive...

George Howard's badge.

PS: I tried to find the one of the "first pitch" at that year's World Series...the one with all the flashbulbs popping and Bush in the bulky bullet-proof vest. But Google didn't come up with the right one.

(Don't pay any attention to me. After this weeks terror plot, I'm just reminiscing about better days before so many Americans "moved on".)

Last note:
Don't know what happened in that third photo. When I previewed it, it showed him holding up the badge with tears in his eyes. Something changed after I posted.

Here it is, Timeout....

I share your longing for the time when the American people 'got it.' When we all understood that we were in grave danger, and that President Bush was standing tall between us and that danger.

Well, we still are, and he still is protecting us, but too many people have forgotten. SHAME on them.

Thank you! I love that wide shot of the stadium.

Sigh. Americans are so easily lulled back to sleep.
