Central Asia: Security Services Take On Religious Dissent (Jihad loving Media BARF Alert)
RFERL ^ | 10-10-2006 | Gulnoza Saidazimova

Rafiq Qori Kamoluddin, the prominent ethnic Uzbek religious leader who was killed during a security raid in southern Kyrgyzstan on August 6, is not the first imam to have been targeted by law-enforcement agencies in the region. Several other Uzbek imams have been persecuted before. But he is the first to have been targeted by both Kyrgyz and Uzbek security services. Independent observers say the violent death of an Islamic leader known for his tolerance toward radical worshipers highlights increasing Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation to fight religious dissent.

"fight religious dissent" of Muslims means fighting Jihad. RFERL as much of the Jihadist loving Western Media tries to whitewash another Jihadist as freedom fighter, but that's trick simply not working.

Central Asian strongmen, like Karimov, won't allow even a sniff of ACLU -:)))

While I'm not a fan of the Central Asian authocrats, Jihadists are much worse, so I simply don't buy this media sobbing about shot Imam being "moderate" (while allowing pan-Islamist Jihadist party Hizb-UT-Tahrir to attend his mosque). Imams are surely often ideological drivers of Jihad, so they got what they deserve. If you preach Jihad or give shelter to Jihadists, you are a legitimate target.

I was deployed to Uzbekistan in 2003-04. The more Islam, the less freedom, as young Uzbeks saw it, especially their (beautiful) young women, who under the secularist Karimov regime got to dress pretty much as they liked (we Yanks liked it too!). One young Uzbyechka said to me, in her sleeveless top and hiphugger jeans, "We carry Islam in our hearts!"

OTOH, another equally lovely Uzbek girl said to me in chillingly perfect English, "I want you to know one thing: I admire Josef Stalin!"

I never thought I would say this, old Cold Warrior that I am, but in Central Asia at least, there really is something worse than communism.
