I just heard Jim Stewart refer to the bomb plotters as "martyrs". This was on the 5:30 PM (CDT) broadcast of the CBS Evening News. I Tivo'd the broadcast and used closed captioning to pull this quote. I can think of lots of words to describe the scum who tried this, but "martyr" wouldn't be one of them.

It was to be a martyrdom operation....

I don't have a problem with his wording.

Don't watch CBS and you will not be subjected to such nonsense.

OOOPs, the editor forgot to change the wording on those FAX'd talking points he got from al Qaeda via al Jazeera.

Put his ass on a plane with his martyrs and let them fly off into the sunset. What a POS.

If he had even said "would be martyrs" that would be different... sounds like he forgot to cover his bias.

I heard that they found some of those "martyr" tapes that suicide bombers make before thier missions in the homes of one of those houses in England.

I would have chosen a different word, but it does not necessarily imply bias.

1mar·tyr
Pronunciation: 'mär-t&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English, from Late Latin, from Greek martyr-, martys witness
1 : a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion
2 : a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle
3 : VICTIM; especially : a great or constant sufferer

Talk about pejorative "reporting" ... and let us not forget, in America, even the accused are supposed to be considered innocent until proven guilty. The reporter branded them guilty, forgot to use the word "alleged" preceding "martyrs", etc., a privilege even people caught on tape committing crimes are still granted by the ancient media, for the most part.

I suppose that's what they would have been.
As for what you call someone who watches network news.... I'd say, susceptible.

Dog, I'm with hanamizu on this one.

Traditionaly, one thinks of martyrs as Jim Elliot, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, or the early Christians martyred for their faith during the Roman times/era.

The word martyr has usually been aligned with a noble/heroic or faith action.

...not with a hatefilled zealot determined to take down women and children with him, or her.

"Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean investigators say, the martyrs planned to simultaneously explode small chemical bombs made from ingedients in their carry-on luggage."

Martyrs?? MARTYRS??

Jim Stewart, his producers, and his entire NETWORK make me want to PUKE.

I want to know the sponsors of this show. If there is any chance in hell I might use their product or service, I will contact them and let them know I don't appreciate their sponsorship of a show that refers to Islamofacists as martyrs. They're murderers of innocent people. At BEST.

Sorry for "shouting", but that is absolutely ridiculous. And it WASN'T a "mistake" or slip of the tongue. Network reporters choose their words very very carefully. And this one is over the TOP.

CBS News Jim Stewart refers to plotters as "martyrs'

There is a cure for this condition: Don't tune in to SeeBS. Okay, so I just had to check out the NBC Evening News version of today's events. Was pleasantly surprised to see David Gregory looking like he had the wind knocked out of him. No mention of Chuckie Schumer's traumatic flight cancellation in London.

btw--what was Brian Williams doing in London? Was he already there, or did he hop a jet over there for the occasion today?

I thought a martyr was someone who held onto their beliefs, despite being persecuted. I think that the victims of these barbarians would have been closer to being a martyr than the violent, mind numbed, Islamo-fascists.
