Reid, Pelosi: Iraq War Harms Terror Fight
NewsMax ^ | August10, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

Democratic leaders commended British authorities for their role in successfully foiling a terrorist bomb plot Thursday, while taking jabs at the Bush administration for its handling of the war on terrorism.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, agree that the continued threat of terrorism haunts the United States, nearly five years after the 9/11 attacks.

"Today's news is an urgent reminder that we must make America safer and the world more stable,” Pelosi said in a prepared statement. "We must implement the strong recommendations of the independent 9/11 Commission to improve airport security screening at checkpoints."

Reid said the British authorities "protected the lives of innocent civilians, including many American citizens,” while encouraging stronger methods – including cooperation with foreign allies - to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States and abroad.

"Terrorism remains the greatest threat to our security,” Reid said. "As the five year anniversary of the September 11th attacks approaches, we should take this opportunity not just to remember, but to take stock of what progress has been made to protect Americans and what steps remain unfulfilled.”

Despite the Bush administration’s success in preventing attacks in the United States since 9/11, Reid said "mismanagement” by Bush's policies make Americans feel that their security is at great risk.

"The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists,” Reid said. "This latest plot demonstrates the need for the Bush administration and the Congress to change course in Iraq and ensure that we are taking all the steps necessary to protect Americans at home and across the world."

I think the only course President Bush and his administration need to change is not in Iraq, but right here at our borders. He needs to put up that freakin wall already and CLOSE our borders. PERIOD!!!

Of course they and the rest of their ilk have no viable alternative but to "quit", bring the troops home, and wait for the next attack on American soil.

F'ing disgusting is as tough as I can say it on JR's property.

What would Comrade Reid and Comrade Pelosi prefer we do? Offer the terrorsts therapy? They can't seriously believe that Iraq would be better off with this guy in charge.

My bet is the Democrats simply don't care about other people, and their proclaimed altruism is only for show.

After 9/11, you'd thunk that woulda been priority #1.
Find out who's in the country who wishes us harm and get rid of them. And, keep those out who wish the same.

War on terror solved.

This is very interesting, the government (actually the British government) stops a major terrorists plot and the Democrats call it a failure. They say that we have isolated ourselves and have no friends in the WOT. Did not one of our friends just stop an incident?

Now the Democrats are saying because there is an incident, that Bush has failed on the WOT (even though the plot was not successful). Can you imagine in WWII the Republicans telling the public that FDR failed because the Germans and Japanese fought back? That is what the Democrats are saying, because the terrorists are fighting, we have failed. So how do we get the terrorists from fighting (in other words how do we get success)?

If you are Democrat, that would mean we surrender because the terrorist will stop attacking us.

If you are not a Democrat, it would mean killing the terrorist so he stops fighting.

They have an abnormal tendency to step on their dix, don't they? Trying their best to convince the terminally ignorant that there is no connection to Iraq and the WOT.

John Edwards said the same thing; Terrorists wouldn't be so mad at us if we we just let them do what they want.

This war is being fought with one arm tied behind our back, giving the Liberals and their accomplices (terrorists) a will to fight on. We know where to end the war, just as we did with Japan. But no one has the balls.

Same ol', same ol'.

Independent my ass, and the a--hole Republicans sit still and let the whitewash/Bush-Bash, Gorelick approved joke of a propoganda piece be published.

These two mental midgets have no plan. They constantly vote against and complain about all means we have used to stop terrorist attacks. Pelosi's brother has become wealthy from defense contracts that Murtha sent his way. What a bunch of hogwash.

Hard to catch and survey terror act schemers in the U.S. as the NYT gets tipped off by a CIA or FBI employee and immediately steps forward to publish the terror act under surveillance.
Thanks to the British for keeping things tight.
