Sen. Schumer Stranded at Heathrow Airport
1010 WINS ^ | August 10, 2006 | 1010 WINS

WASHINGTON -- Among the thousands of frustrated flyers stuck at London's Heathrow Airport Thursday was U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, a jet-lagged casualty of worldwide delays and cancellations that grounded his family vacation.

"It's a nightmare, everyone's stuck, and our flight is apparently delayed until Sunday,'' the senator told The Associated Press by phone.

The New York Democrat and his family arrived at Heathrow Airport at 9 a.m. London time Thursday, but the plane was forced to sit on the runway for two hours before disembarking passengers.

When they finally got off the plane, they were greeted with the chaos caused by the arrests in a major international terror plot.

The Schumer family spent eight hours racing back and forth between Heathrow terminals just trying to catch up with their luggage.

"We now know the shuttle between the terminals better than we know the D train in Brooklyn,'' the senator said.

The first connecting flight to their planned destination -- Amsterdam -- isn't until Sunday, so Schumer said the family would probably head into central London for at least one night.

Schumer said that as chaotic as the airport is, he thought British officials were handling it well.

"The British are very good at these kind of crises, you know, a stiff upper lip, very helpful, but they don't seem to have much information,'' he said.

Schumer, his wife and two daughters had planned a two-week trip through Europe.

Oddly, he is not the first prominent New York politician to witness a major British terror incident.

When the London Underground subway system was attacked in July 2005 by terrorists who detonated backpack bombs on several trains, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was at a hotel just a few blocks from one of the explosions.

I feel sorry for the senator's family. Not because of being stranded though. ~

LMAO!

IMO, Joe is coming out smelling like a rose now! And, all those Dems who worked so hard to defeat him (including Chucky) look like a bunch of fools!

They are a bunch of fools, filled with so much hate and lust for power, they cannot see straight. Trashing the one Dem who could have beaten Bush in 2000 shows how stupid they are. Let them keep moving to the left --- that is their end. Their swan song. Uncle Joe will beat them in Conn. as an independent and we will all have a party just on general principles. The backstabbing libs will get their due.

But worst of all are those Dems like Chris Dodd who endorsed Lamont after the primary. They all signed on to the 'cut and run' plaform just hours before a major terrorist actions against the US was thwarted.

It could've been far worse for Chucky --
the junior Senator from NY might have
been stuck there along with him:

Chucky's press predicament has opened the news cameras and microphones to Ned Lamont today: The Iraq war is totally unrelated to the war on terrorism; Iraq was invaded on a "false premise", he's not sure why he has to answer questions about an international situation... on and on.

Since Chucky was out of touch today, Lamont seized the moment to transform into the new Yoko Ono of the shrills Democratic party. It's a vast left 'wind' conspiracy.

Not to worry, the vast majority of CT voters are registered Independents. He will take the election.

I wonder if Chucky Schumer thought about the need for PROFILING while he waited for 8 hours and had to throw out his shampoo.

I hope the ba$turd is searched and delayed along with the "dirty, low-life commoners."

We can only hope!

I wonder if this trip was paid for by the taxpayers or by some lobby.

A reporter from the Washington Times should investigate that.

THe SJ Mercury News got a better quote out of Schumer:

"It looked like a scene out of a war - not that there was any damage - but there were all these refugees."

Yeah, to a lib, that's what WAR means: refugees---in an ultra-modern airport for cryin' out loud.

Sheesh, you couldn't buy these people a clue.

Lately I've been reading books by Janet Evanovitch who writes about a female bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum. Great summer books!

I vaguely remember reading one of those Plum novels....does she have a banged up car or something? Maybe lives in a run down neighborhood? I seem to recall enjoying it.

Gosh just imagine if he'd been on a flight that was blown up

Not to worry. His ghost would be right back in front of the camera blaming Bush for diverting all the money into Iraq and letting this happen.
