EW YORK -- A Pakistani-born pilot is suing JetBlue Airways Corp. for discrimination, claiming the airline rescinded a job offer and told him it was because of his background.

Faisal Baig, a U.S. citizen who was raised in Yonkers, claims in the suit that an airline manager told him in March that he was a "security risk."

According to the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Baig asked, "Are you saying that you are not hiring me because of my name or my religion? ... Are you saying you are not hiring me because of where I'm from?"

The manager answered, "Yes, and JetBlue considers you a security risk," according to the suit.

This is why the blonde, buxom Viking ladies get wanded and groped, so that Mooses can do no harm.

Assuming this is true - and I've no reason to believe it is, because a modern American company of any size wouldn't do something so sensible - I'm flying JetBlue from now on. Both to reward their common sense and to increase my own chances of having a safe trip.

Let's face it. Most of us would be reluctant to hire someone from Yonkers.

He may have gotten onto a no fly list somehow. Possibly someone with the same name, same immigration history in Yonkers. Or he really has been into some mischief.

This is an American citizen. If what he says is true, he should prevail in his lawsuit. There is no reason why an American citizen whould be denied a job regardless of national origin or religion.

Every major company knows this. I suspect there is something else in his background that stopped his employment. It will be interesting to hear what that is.

And BTW, I think it is pretty despicable that people here dismiss all Muslims as terrorists. If he passes the security background check and is a U.S. citizen he can have any job including "pilot." Simply being Muslim or of Pakistani descent is not disqualifying. It makes me sick to read those posts that don't seem to get this. It's un-American.

Well, he had BEEN flying for a rival airline for six years. I smell no-fly list somewhere in this mess.

Agreed. While there may be more to the story (and most likely is, JetBlue is a reputable airline), posts like 11 are ill-advised.

You certain experience, an ATP lic., a 1st class medical to fly the airlines. So what is his education/employment history? Resume, if any? There's likely more to this story than we know.

"Ladies & Gentlemen, this is capt. Faisal Baig speaking. We have now reached a cruising altitude of 37,000 ft. Feel free to move about the cabin, but we advise that you keep your seat belts fastened when seated in case there is unexpected turbulence. We are expecting clear skies and a fairly smooth ride; the temperature in San Francisco is a pleasant 59 degrees. Our flight from JFK to the TransAmerica tower will take approximately 5 hrs and 45 min. Thank you for flying JetBlue."

"This is an American citizen. If what he says is true, he should prevail in his lawsuit. There is no reason why an American citizen whould be denied a job regardless of national origin or religion." As there have already several cases of Muslim pilots taking their planes into a free fall landing [one confirmed several suspected] I would rather not be on a plane piloted by a member of that particular fraternity known as the Religion of Peace.

This is an American citizen.

That statement used to mean something.

Today, it carries less weight.

A woman could be married to a terrorist (or be a homicide bomber herself) and drop a kid on a US hospital floor, and voila - American citizen anchor baby for the entire extended family.

The term "American citizen" impresses me less and less these days. Did these people take loyalty oaths to the US? No, those are not required anymore. Do all immigrants speak English? Do they place Islam above the US? Can't ask that of them - not PC.
