Ground troops and fighter pilots continued their efforts on Thursday to wrest control of southern Lebanon from Hizbullah terrorists. Battles were especially fierce in the town of Marjayoun.
Soldiers began the combat day by entering Marjayoun, a central stronghold of Hizbullah terrorists and a major launching site for rocket attacks aimed at Israels northern communities. Two IDF soldiers were wounded as fierce fighting continued in the village throughout the day. The village of Aytaroun was also targeted by ground forces.
Clashes were reported in the village of Aytaroun, and the city of Baalbek, located in the Lebanon Valley. Baalbek was also strafed by Israel Air Force warplanes.
Troops also raided a building in the village of Mais al-Jabal, seizing aerial photographs of Kiryat Shmona and sophisticated night vision equipment.
Eight soldiers were wounded in the morning hours in various battles across southern Lebanon. An IDF reserves unit killed two terrorists in western Lebanon. Israel Air Force fighter pilots killed at least three others. Seven other terrorists were killed in firefights in the south of the country.
In Beirut, leaflets were dropped in central part of the capital city and Lebanese government compound for the first time, advising residents to leave for their own safety. Two people were lightly wounded in an IAF air strike on central Beirut as well.
In northern Lebanon, the IDF dropped leaflets warning residents to stay indoors and informing them that any truck on the roads after 8:00 pm will be targeted by IAF warplanes.
In other IAF action, fighter jetsstruck roads connecting Lebanon with Syria. Also hit was a minibus near the eastern Lebanese town of Raiyak, using an Israeli drone. One person was killed in that attack, according to local sources.
