At this moment, the Islamists terrorists are winning. Hate to say it, but this is the truth.
The US, and the West in general has gotten fat and lazy. President Bush is a good man, but not the kind of leader that can open the eyes of the average American to the scale of the threats we face. The President needs to be able to do a LOT more than issue orders, he needs to be able to bring along the American people - and in this capacity Bush just is not successful.
Add to that the horribly mistaken idea that building "Islamic democracies" was a worthwhile strategy, and well, we now find ourselves on the defensive, divided and generally still burying our heads in the sand in the face of an increasingly bold and unified Islamists enemy.
Now it appears Israel is on the brink of ending its offensive against Hizbullah which will appear to most in the region as a Hizbullah victory. Israel had a chance to annhilate Hizbullah's military capacity, and instead failed to even end their kaytusha rocket threat.
Things are definately not looking up. Not surprising though. I've always suspected it will take many more horrific attacks for the Western world to finally realize it was actually under coordinated attack. If I had to guess, I'd say it will probably take a WMD attack on a major Western city to turn things around. That or a very charismatic leader.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. A bunch of Rabbi's including the high priest at one time had a Roman governor crucify God's son.

They haven't agreed to anything, Hezbollah hasn't agreed to anything, Russia's trying to work out another deal, and you let your heart break because of news on Fox News?
this report about the new russian cease fire proposal for a "humanitarian truce" is odd, there would be no need for this if the French-American cease fire goes thru. Hmmmmm. . .

Let's not overreact here. . This is preety much going back to the status quo.
It's not like there's hundreds of thousand of troops pouring over the border into Israel and Hezbollh armored columns at the outskirts of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, In fact, there's not even 1 Hezbollah inside Israel.
All that's happened really is that both sides have established that they can hurt each other and we'll pretty much have a stand off...until it heats up again in the future.
Iran and Syria are the real enemies, HB is just a sideshow.

U.S., France Fail to Produce Agreement on UN Lebanon Resolution
Aug. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. and France failed today to produce an agreement at the United Nations on ending the war between Israel and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, Russia's UN ambassador said.
``Unfortunately, we at this point came to the conclusion we do not have an immediate prospect of this resolution being accepted,'' Russian envoy Vitaly Churkin told reporters today after the five permanent members of the UN Security Council met.
