'No state funeral' for Thatcher TONY BLAIR has ruled out the possibility of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher being given a state funeral.
A spokeswoman for Number 10 said: "All that we can confirm is that there are no such plans and it is not appropriate to comment further."
Mr Blair's stance on funeral arrangements for Lady Thatcher, 80, was revealed after a reported protest by Rosie Cooper, MP for Lancashire West, over reports that civil servants in the Cabinet Office were drawing up detailed plans for a state funeral for the ex-Tory leader. Miss Cooper wrote to Number 10 saying that some of her constituents were appalled at the idea.
John McTernan, Mr Blair's political secretary, replied saying that he could confirm that there were no such plans.
Tory MPs have accused Mr Blair of using his stance on Lady Thatcher's funeral arrangements to appease left-wing Labour MPs.
Lady Thatcher, who is reported to be in good health, was prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

Great post
I recall traveling in England in the early '70s. and speaking with ordinary Englishmen who were fearful they would never work again. I just saw an Anthony Hopkings movie made in the early '80s called 64 Charing Cross, which reminded me how threadbare with the life of the English midddles classes almost a generation after the war. As I lived in Germany at the time , I found it ironical that the Germans enjoyed a higher standard of living than the supposed victors of the war.
Thanks
you'd think the UK would have a standard policy for former PM's, regardless of party or popularity.
Doesn't the US require each POTUS to file a funeral plan before leaving office? There is a single State Funeral plan should a president die while in office.
Seems I heard the only one who hasn't done so is Clinton. I think all former US Presidents are entitled to a State Funeral, whether they choose to have one or not is up to the individual. So, Carter and Clinton could, if they chose, have State Funerals. My memory is that Nixon chose not to have one. Eisenhower did. Reagan did.
Found it..FYI
This is disgusting. This is one they should be totally ashamed of.
