Black flag: Unsers busted at crime scene

ALBUQUERQUE -- Right in the middle of today’s deadly carjacker pursuit, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department arrested two members of Albuquerque’s famous Unser racing family. Both Al Unser Sr. and Bobby Unser Sr. were booked into the Metro Detention Center this afternoon charged with failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest.

Both walked out of the jail about 3:30 p.m.

The brothers, who have a combined seven checkered flags at the Indianapolis 500 and are huge names in the racing world, apparently thought their celebrity status meant they were above the law.

The police pursuit of a stolen car, complete with reported shotgun fire aimed at pursuing officers, ended about 11 a.m. when the suspect crashed into another car and then accidentally or deliberately shot himself to death with the sawed-off shotgun. That dramatic conclusion happened at an intersection close to some Unser family property.

While the incident was still unfolding, Bernalillo County sheriff's investigators allege Al Unser started going through a roadblock in an attempt to get to his property. Despite six or seven warnings to leave the area, he still refused to leave, saying it was his property--he owned it.

When the deputy told him he would be arrested, Unser allegedly said, “You can't take me to jail,” and began cussing at the officer.

Officers report he then jerked away and said, “Don't you know who I am? I'm Al Unser.”

A short time after he was arrested, Bobby Unser showed up. Deputies said he, too, refused to leave and resisted arrest.

Both were transported to holding cells at the Valley substation before being taken to jail.

“They simply told them numerous times to leave the area, and they simply refused to do so,” Erin Kinnard of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department said. “Were not talking about a situation where we're trying to catch a shoplifter.

“This was a serious and dangerous situation.”

KRQE News 13 was told Al Unser threatened the arresting officer, telling him he would get back at him some day.

People on the scene also said the deputies didn’t recognize Al Unser and didn’t care who he was, they just wanted the men to leave since shots were being fired in the area.

Contacted later, Al Unser Jr. declined a request for an interview. KRQE News 13 was unable to reach Bobby Unser.

Running a police road block is not exactly level headed.

Neither is dressing up like an indian and dumping tea in a harbor. But there are times when the right to liberty demands to be asserted. To the meek or the sheepish, the act may seem like madness or hubris. To others, it speaks of an independent spirit that will not be denied.

I favor the latter interpretation.

Just curious, do you think Cynthia McKinney was within her "rights" in the capitol police assult affair?

He tried to stop her from doing her congressional duties, was she right in assulting him?

I'm a tyranny-hater. It comes in a lot of forms, including uniformed thugs who invent rights to trample the property rights of others in pursuit of their duties.

Your beef is with those who write the ordinances and laws which are enforced by the police.

You're better off taking them on, because I've got news for you:

You ain't gonna win a confrontation with the cops.

Constitutionalist is not a derogatory epithet here.

Yeah, that one's news to me too. I must have stumbled onto the Peoples' Temple website by mistake. Where do they keep the kool-aid?

Running a police road block that was set up to protect citizens and dumping tea in a harbor to protest a tax is far from the same.

And you just keep on bending over, bowing down and saying "sir, yes sir" to anyone who claims to be in charge of any odd situation you encounter.

You remind me of those militia people who hole up in remote cabins, then come walking out, sheepishly, after a couple of weeks, after all the electricity and water's been cut off with their hands over their heads.

You deny being a cop hater? Your choice of words tell another story.

He tried to stop her from doing her congressional duties, was she right in assulting him?

She was not doing her congressional duties. She was entering a building where she was liable to be searched and she refused to comply. She simply assaulted him. But nice try for an equivalency argument.

For a real "equivalency argument" revisit your reply about the Boston Tea Party, then come back and talk equivalency arguments with me.

She was not doing her congressional duties. She was entering a building where she was liable to be searched and she refused to comply. She simply assaulted him.

You still didn't answer the question. Was Cynthia within her "rights"? Would you have assulted the cop had you been in that situation?

Police have blocked off Unser from Central to Los Volcanes NW, as well as Bluewater NW in both directions from Unser...

Al / Bobby: "Hey, Cop: see that street sign? I'm Unser!"

Cop: Yeah -- does that make you bulletproof?"

Yes, it is. But it's also with their pawns. That "defense" didn't work any better at Nuremberg than it does here.

You ain't gonna win a confrontation with the cops.

There are a lot of ways to "win" such a confrontation. Sometimes when the cops "win," they lose. (Ask Rodney King.) My guess is that this will prove to be one of those times. It depends on how much hell the Unsers raise about it, and whether they decide to sic some pitbull civil rights lawyer on the city. Then the taxpayers end up covering the bill for a bunch of overzealous "guardians" who are more of a threat to the public weal than any so-called criminal.

Where does the Constitution give the police the right to do anything?

LOL!
Not sure, but they seem to have spiked it with Everclear before they drank it.

You can continue to "debate" with the dhimmis in training, if you have the time and patience.
I have to work in the morning.
Good night!

You still didn't answer the question.

The question was begged. You presumed she was doing her congressional duties.

Was Cynthia within her "rights"?

No.

Would you have assulted the cop had you been in that situation

No. I don't believe in assult.

I have to side with the Unsers on this one. I know that the chain of command on my property goes as follows,
1. God
2. Me or anyone else on the deed.
3. Any blood relative in my absence or incapacitation.
4. Any friend so ordained by me.
5. The government of the United States.
Notice who falls LAST on that list.

Had they let the Unsers through there and they were injured or killed because of it you would now be calling the cops irresponsible and also urging a law suit against them

Your every reply shows your prejudice against cops. Nothing they do or don't do pleases you does it?

LOL!! You are a knuckle-dragger, for sure.

Let 'em. They won't win. As for Rodney King, I invite you to check out his two-foot-long rap sheet since his run in with those officers.

I'd wager his ex-wife wishes they'd killed him.
