The mag is right below the sling. YOu can also see a shell casing in mid air outlined on the shirt of one of the guys watching.
I don't think this is phony. It sure indicates these guys surround themselves by civilians and no doubt if the Israelis had targeted him; his body would have been GONE and only the civilians he was hiding by left for the media!

The magazine is supposed to be between the sling and the lower receiver group of the weapon, not below the sling. If you look where the magazine is supposed to be inserted, you will see wrinkles of a blue shirt. As for the ejected round, it appears to be moving forward. Ejected rounds are pulled to the rear when the bolt extracts the cartridge after firing.
