A Palestinian militant fires toward Israeli troops during an arrest raid in the West Bank village of Qabatiyeh near Jenin, Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. Four Palestinians were wounded when the army arrested an Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades militant, Palestinians sources said. The army said two Islamic Jihad militants were arrested during the operation. >>Staged photo. Not fauxtoshopped<<
That's my take as well. That said, it is always possible that it is not staged, but it is not relevant.

They even have a spent shell casing in the air. A nice "touch".
Any idea as to why the strap appears to be on an outward angle rather than dropping straight down? It looks a little odd to me, unless it may be due to a sweeping action.

Photoshopped! The weapon has no magazine! You can see the guy's blue shirt where the 30-round mag should be.

Assuming that the shooter is using the building as partial concealment, wouldn't this put the photographer out in the open in the middle of a fire fight? You assume someone is returning fire. Those children would instantly become human shields and civilians "unfairly" killed in this "unjust" war. And the terrorist friendly photographer would be on the scene to report the carnage. Or even moreso, the media could claim their reporters were being targeted.

Q:
My question is, why, if there is something to be defended from out there, are these people standing around watching? I think it is a clean, but staged image. A: It's "dramatic". He could be on a shooting range for all we know.

The shooter's left hand is around the forestock of the M-16. The magazine is supposed to be inserted immediately in front of the trigger guard, and there's nothing there.

You'll see the spent cartridge
The cartridge is too far in front of the ejection port. M4 carbeines tend to throw brass backwards, at least the ones I've shot do.
As has been mentioned, however, the gun doesn't have a magazine in it. It's fake. The gun in the picture is unloaded.

The mag is right below the sling. You can also see a shell casing in mid air outlined on the shirt of one of the guys watching. I don't think this is phony. It sure indicates these guys surround themselves by civilians and no doubt if the Israelis had targeted him; his body would have been GONE and only the civilians he was hiding by left for the media! The magazine is supposed to be between the sling and the lower receiver group of the weapon, not below the sling. If you look where the magazine is supposed to be inserted, you will see wrinkles of a blue shirt. As for the ejected round, it appears to be moving forward. Ejected rounds are pulled to the rear when the bolt extracts the cartridge after firing.

Depending on the distance the photographer was and what power zoom he was using , it flattens the depth of field and can make objects look unnaturally close to each other.

I saw this photo in the NY Post this morning. It has an AP watermark in the left margin. What I noticed was the American made weapon the the pali is firing. I was looking for an explanation for that.

That was who the DUmmies blamed. Israel. Said it was a setup the same way Dan Rather was set up.

however where are the newspapers saying the will no longer use Reuters picturs?
Where is the scandal saying that Reuters is too unreliable to be trusted so newspapers will not impune themselves?
The answer is that newspapers WANT the fake news.

Adnan Hajj has a partner or an alter ego named "Issam Kobeisy" apparently. (And Reuters is keeping him on staff to promote more "fauxtography")
A Lebanese civil defence worker removes the body of a toddler from the wreckage of a building August 8, 2006 that was hit by an Israeli raid in Beirut. The attack which took place yesterday on Chiyah, a residential neighbourhood in Beirut, killed 13 people and wounded dozens according to police. REUTERS/Issam Kobeisy (LEBANON)

It does. The shooter's left hand is wrapped around it. The bottom of the magazine is seen under his hand.
I can see the shirt of one of the bystanders where the magazine is supposed to be. It ain't got one. Take it from someone who's fired these weapons before; that gun ain't loaded.

I'm no longer totally convinced it's fake having looked at it in Shop, the lighter guy in the forground could have been because of the flash...
