Of course the US just dropped the atomic bombs on Japan as an act of racism and imperialism and the Japanese where wholly innocent of doing anything and if they did anything it was the fault of FDR and the US. </sarcasm

Any "moments of silence" for Pearl Harbor, The Rape of Nanking, the Treatment of POWs or the medical experimentation on the Chinese?
No, the pity party is only for anti-American acts...

What a perfect opportunity that would have been to have snuck up behind the Mayor and popped a paper sack.

Let's have a moment of silence for Sharon Tate, who was discovered on the 9th after being murdered by Charlie Manson; Nixon resigned on this day. August 9th has been one strange day....
I know, it's my birthday.

The bomb in the end, ultimately saved a lot more Japanese lives than even American lives. It would have gotten ugly had we invaded the Japanese islands.

I absolutely agree, gator.
I searched far and wide for any Nagasaki articles that were more historical & analytical, rather than about Japan's amnesia, but unfortunately couldn't find any.

3 days before the 21st anniversary of Hiroshima's bomb, I stood close to ground zero. That was a few weeks prior to going to the Nam. Was wishing we had a truman type in office instead of the bum we had. Wanted him to drop a bunch of these things along the DMZ so I'd have "glow in the dark targets". No such luck.
