ARLINGTON, Va. The Army has promoted Sgt. Keith Matt Maupin, the only U.S. soldier listed as captured in Iraq, for the third time since he went missing after his unit was ambushed April 9, 2004.
Maupin, who is known as Matt because Keith is also his fathers name, was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant as of Aug. 3, 2006, according to an Army announcement released Tuesday.

SSG Matt Maupin ...
You are not forgotten.
Thanks SandRat.
Ping to never forget.
Not forgotten.
Pray for this kid and his family. They have been steadfast in their vigilence for him. They are neighbors of mine here in Union Township. A good kid from a good family. I pray they some day learn what has happened with Matt.
Prayers continue for Matt and his family.
I tell you, as bad as it was for me, having your son go missing has to be the worst. I can't imagine. Though to me, it's kind of like my son is just off somewhere on a long assignment. For the longest time, I'd just get a little mad and impatient, wondering when he'd get back for a visit. Maybe it's not so different. You hope even when you know there's no hope, no chance. Just goes with the territory, I guess.
<--still a SGT.
I HOPE THAT ONE DAY HE WILL BE ABLE TO WEAR THOSE STRIPES.YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
God Bless you and your family. I am sorry for you loss and feel very grateful to your son and your family for the price you have paid for my continued freedom. Here's a very heartfelt thanks to you and a salute to your son.
No, you are not forgotten SSG Matt Maupin. Americans remember you and pray for you.
My permanent tag line until Matt comes home.
Ping for Matt.
Pray he shows up alive and well. Know several families who went many years with a son MIA. I pray he is safely returned.

Lord, I bring before you now our soldiers who have been captured, and ask that You would uphold them with Your right hand.Be their rock in the midst of uncertainty and their light in the midst of darkness. Guard their hearts from fear and strengthen them according to Your Word. Cause them Lord, to lie down and sleep in peace for You alone are their safety.
Surround them Lord with Your favor as a shield. Soften the hearts of those who watch over them and cause them to show compassion and mercy. Keep the hearts of our soldiers filled with hope, and guard them from despair.Be near to them Lord, for Your nearness is their good, and bring them back safely to their families.
In Jesus' mighty name,
Amen.
Never forget, SSG Matt Maupin.
but he does visit...everytime the Flag waves, every time the Star Spangled Banner is played, everytime the sound of laughter and cheers are heard at little-league ball game; he visits us all. Telling us all to stand strong, defend this, it's with holding dear.
