We're reducing human beings to be meaningless liabilities in the name of dignity? What point of discourse could possibly be more ignorant, ironic and outright foolish than that?

What a surreal juxtaposition to call the right-to-die a mark of human dignity, all the while making sure Nana isn't draining your inheritance. Not very dignified, is it?

With all of their soothing words, well-crafted marketing and fear-based sales pitches, the right to kill lobby has missed out on a very real side of the consumer they wish to influence.

People want to live.

Perfect!

The decision to declare your own medical treatment decisions may very well be the most important decision you ever make. How dare a lazy or ill-researched columnist try to spook you into signing your life away? I don't completely understand why the author seems somewhat oppositional towards living wills or advance directives. While I agree that as long as I'm able I want to make deciscions regarding my medical treatment - I also realize that life is full of hazards and that may not be my choice to make. Given the beliefs of my siblings, I feel more secure knowing that my husband has all the support and documentation he needs to put my wishes into action. We signed out living wills/advance directives with our minister and his wife as witnesses.

In my "living will" I'm going to stipulate that I be kept hooked up as long as my bank account allows. None of this "die with dignity" nonsense. I'm going to live forever! ;)
