FBI: Approach Missing Egyptians with Caution (UPDATE: see post # 685)
ABCNews ^ | 08/08/06 | Brian Ross

Posted on 08/08/2006 11:24:51 AM PDT by mojito

The FBI has issued an urgent nationwide alert for 11 Egyptian students who entered the United States last week but failed to show up for their courses at Montana State University.

An FBI advisory says there are, at present, no known connections to any terrorist group but that the students are to be "approached with caution" and taken into custody. They "are here illegally and wanted for questioning," the advisory says.

The advisory comes just over a month before the five-year anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.

"This is of very serious concern and is being closely tracked," said Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The FBI says the Egyptians arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on July 29 and disappeared. The advisory says the alert is nationwide but that there is specific concern the Egyptians may be on the Eastern Seaboard.

According to the advisory the 11 missing Egyptians are:

1. Ibrahim, El Sayed Ahmed Elsayed; DOB OF 4/29/1986.

2. El Dessouki, Eslam Ibrahim Mohamed; DOB OF 02/21/1985.

3. El Bahnasawi, Alaa Abd El Fattah Ali; DOB OF 04/02/1986.

4. Abd Alla, Mohamed Ragab Mohamed; DOB OF 02/15/1984.

5. El Laket, Ahmed Refaat Saad El Moghazi; DOB OF 09/01/1986.

6. El Ela, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Abou; DOB OF 02/02/1985.

7. El Moghazy, Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed; DOB OF 08/08/1986.

8. Abdou, Ebrahim Mabrouk Moustafa; DOB OF 02/25/1984.

9. El Gafary, Moustafa Wagdy Moustafa; DOB OF 07/01/1988.

10.Maray, Mohamed Saleh Ahmed; DOB OF 09/12/1985.

11.El Shenawy, Mohamed Ibrahim Fouaad; DOB OF 08/12/1988.

..so the *missing students* are either 1)Knowledgable in the fact that the FBI is concerned about their whereabouts, and are at this very moment LTAO at what's going on, or 2)up to no U.S. good and are at this very moment LTAO at what's coming...

One of these possibilities must be true. There simply is no other rational explanation. Unless they took a side trip to Aruba, then Greta will find 'em.

I'd have to go back and look, and perhaps another FReeper can jog my memory, but I believe the university in Montana that mentioned the parents were distressed. I assume they would have been contacted.

After watching a documentary on the 911 terrorists and how they plotted and planned, I would have to say that IF these students are in fact terrorists, it is probable that their family and friends are totally in the dark about what they are doing.

I forgot about Geraldo. I like it that way. ;)

Well, as long as they're happy, I suppose...

I'd say your assessment is probably quite accurate. What are the odds of 11 students from ANYWHERE disappearing on the same day from the same place, all with the same itinerary?

I will ask a relevant question, and I would appreciate thoughtful (not kneejerk) responses from those who care to answer it.

HYPOTHETICALLY:

IF these men are terrorists and are discovered to have pulled off a terrorist attack, who will receive the most blame from the general public: the Democrats, the Republicans, or the Bush administration?

I ran the same search, but with different dates, and the Denver flight was the cheapest. I ran some different dates and Denver was still the cheapest at $2100. Please post the link to the $1188 round-tripper.

The dates definately make a difference. Move a couple of days either way and the price can change dramatically. Here's an Air Egypt flight that passes through JFK that departs Cairo on 09.23 and departs Bozeman on 10.20, for a total roundtrip cost of $1125. The Air Egypt flight through Denver on the same dates is $2244:

I wrote in the Egyptian students missing thread earlier in the day that:

the 6 are watchers (computer geeks etc), 11 are workers and there are a couple dudes (the brains of the operation) missing who were probably already here before these dudes arrived.

Yup, you and I are thinking the same.

>>The Democrats<<

I tend to agree with you. But I think the question is a very good one, if I say so myself.

All three (Dems, Pubs, Bush administration) would share the blame in prosecuting the war in a P.C. way (IMHO).

Thanks for the ping. I happened to see the MSU spokeswoman, Cathy Conover, on Tucker earlier today. More here at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. It's been on the Montana news updates on the radio all day today.

Maybe the 11 Egyptians who arrived at JFK and promptly disappeared are NOT the same 11 students who were supposed to come from Egypt. Perhaps these 11 stole the IDs of the real students. That's the only reason I can think of why the FBI won't release the photos to the public. They would do no good and probably just generate a gazillion false sightings. The photos released to LEO may come from surveillance at JFK and may be classified.

I'm doing my best to give the Feds. the benefit here and this is the best I can come up with. The alternative is pretty much unthinkable.

Lat's take a guess that the three denied was deliberate on the Muslim end....but it's a sham. The three they really wanted in came earlier than the 17 who did get in. Kinda like the pea & shell game.

A U.S. State Department consulate official interviewed each student before awarding them visas, Peterson said.

We shouldn't allow any Egyptian "students" to have visas here, much less young males named "Mohamed." The State Department is in charge of this--and that does NOT give me confidence. It explains why no photos are circulating of the "students."

Yes, it was a good question, with an obvious answer, IMHO. The Democrats have been the ball and chain that drags us down and prevents us from executing the WOT as efficiently and securely as we need to.

You can't be too sure which airport they connected from once they left JFK. Getting to Bozeman (BZN - Gallatin Field) via JFK involves flying to Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City and Seattle/Tacoma. Those locations provide non-stop flights to Bozeman.

I'd say they probably didn't even leave NYC, but if they did, they could be anywhere.

I found this paragraph at CNN's updated news page:

"The Egyptian Embassy in Washington did not return calls from ABC News about the student's whereabouts and visa status."

I have searched newspapers and blogs out of Egypt and have not found one single word about their missing "students".
