It did tick me off to no end when they insulted our President on foreign soil, and I was done with them at that point. But I think what really did it for those "well, she does have a right to say what she wants, this is America" country folks is when she insulted country music listeners by stating they didn't want the kind of fans that had a Dixie Chicks CD in the changer with Reba and Toby Keith. I just shook my head and said "stupid, stupid woman - their goes what's left of your career".

Confirmed once and for all that the Chicks didn't want to keep the fans they had. That's suicide in the music business, IMHO. Some artists cross genres to win new fans; that's cool. But you just don't alienate your existing fans and then go looking for others to replace them. Generally, such a tactic doesn't work.
