Mourners carry the coffins of Israeli Arabs Hanna Hamam, 62, and Ladida Mazzawi, 67, who were killed Sunday night in a Hezbollah rocket attack, during their funeral in the city of Haifa, northern Israel, Monday, Aug. 7, 2006. Hezbollah fired its deadliest rocket barrage Sunday on Israel, killing 12 Israeli reservists and three civilians. That brought the Israeli death toll to 94, including 46 soldiers, the 12 reservists and 36 civilians.

In regards to your question from yesterday's thread, I don't know where Iran plans to test nuclear devices, but if I were running the program, I'd look into conducting an underground test in the Salt Flats SW of Mashad.

I heard something about that on the news this morning as I was getting ready for work. I didn't pay much attention to it (OK, I wasn't fully awake yet; it was pre-caffeine). I'll listen more closely if I hear anymore

That reminds me of the video interview take-out of the NA leader in Afghanistan. WTF were those guys
thinking with no security pre-cautions?
Masood's security made those journalists wait for two or three days while their references and credentials were checked.
Osama was smart, he placed his men in an agency Masood wanted to use to score political points. At the last minute, Masood got busy and almost blew them off, but was convinced by advisors to give them a few minutes.
You can pick up about all you wish to know from Steve Coll's "Ghost Wars", the definitive text on military, political and intelligence activities in Afghanistan, 1979 through 2001. Really helps in understanding the current players, who they are, where they came from, how they got here.
The lime lights call!
I haven't heard about that. When did they go missing?
trolling for breakfast?
Whether you agree with the analysis or not, smarminess before 9 is an unkind cut...
You can't grieve too much for Masood. Though courageous and militarily and politically formidable, he accepted half a mill from the CIA to close the Salang Tunnel, but the tunnel stayed open, probably because Masood raided the Soviet convoys through there for the Panjshir valkley's daily bread.
He had his own games going on, most, but not all, honorable.
One player who got and continues to get the short shift in attention and probably funding was Dostum. His forces turned the tide at Mazar-e-Sharrif, the battle that broke the Taliban's back. Dostum himself led many of the final charges, on horseback, into the teeth of a brigade or better dug into highly defensible positions.
In order to prevent a cataclysmic inter-necine war between his forces and a rival warlord, Dostum out-thought both the CIA and the US military, sharing exactly half his new-found US airdropped wealth, food, weapons and cash, with the rival, enlisting an ally who then fixed the Taliban forces from the east of Mazar while Dostum drove on them from the south. Any other outcome probably would have fractured the NA and altered the outcome of the war against us, for the winter of 01-02 at least.
Well after the major fighting was over, Dostum chanced to meet Tommy Franks, and his first words to the CENTCOM general were, "who do you want me to fight now?"
IDF reservists from Brigade 609 took captive two Hizbullah guerrillas overnight Monday in the village of Bint Jbail as the operatives were setting up anti-aircraft missiles that they planned to use against Israeli fighter jets.
In addition to the two, paratroopers from Battalion 890 caught three other Hizbullah men who were sleeping in a house in Bint Jbail.
Since the beginning of operation change of direction, IDF troops have caught over 20 Hizbullah operatives.
The group was known to have anti aircraft missiles, but the army has said it was unclear how advanced their weaponry was.
On Monday, F-16 fighter jets shot down a Hizbullah Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) 10 kilometers off the coast of Acre.
A senior IDF officer said it was possible that the UAV was sent over to conduct surveillance for the Hizbullah, which has flown two UAVs over northern Israel twice in the past two years.
Several days ago, troops from the Golani Brigade operating in the southern Lebanese village of Ayta A Shayeb caught Hizbullah operative Hussein Ali Suleiman Suleiman, 22. He surrendered to the troops after he realized that he was completely surrounded. Suleiman, a high-ranking officer revealed Monday, was part of the 100-man force that participated in the cross-border kidnapping on July 12.
