I thought everyone might like to see this picture which appears in this month's Car & Driver. Chrysler jumps on the anti-American bandwagon to sell cars abroad. This is an actual picture of a billboard displayed in South Africa...touting the absence of any American influence in its Smart cars.

Go, Trabi, Go!
LOL, those Trabants look like a bad copy of a Nash Metropolitan, designed to fit a golf cart chassis. I think they actually had a 2-cycle engine, too.
Who the heck is gonna take that thing "into the bush"???
Don't know if they buy them or not. But it is not because Ford Motor Co. is not trying! The marketing to the homo market has been outrageous, disgusting, and completely in the face of the majority of Americans who see homosexuality as a perversion NOT to be encouraged or mainstreamed. Check out the boycottford website in the previous post, you will be shocked. We were planning to buy a Ford Taurus, then saw the website. Changed our mind and bought a different make this past June (not a Chrysler).
GM should put up a BIG billboard right next to it, reminding buyers GM has absolutely no history of concentration camps.
Thanks for that post. Daimler-Chrysler is a disgrace.
So what?
What's more important? Sticking it to some homos (so to speak) or preserving America's fast-disappearing industrial base?
I'm pretty clear on that choice.
China is going to buy America, and with their *massive* and rapidly growing industry -- build the military hardware to insist we deliver on the sale. Do you want that?
WAKE UP.
Buy American!
That segment apparently doesn't include you.
Absolutely! I buy nearly everything from an American store - - Wal-Mart.
My cars and trucks, however, are Japanese. Best value, hands down.
Wal-mart.
I quit. Go back to sleep.
Precisely that,!
SMART cars have become a very heavy burden to DCX, sales have been very, very sluggish and it is dragging the Company down(because Europe mandates to manufacture low or "zero" emissions vehicle).
Sans American flair obviously the SMARTS have a hell of a time selling.
Yes. The Dr. Z ads were designed to soften up the anal, strident, humorless German image that many Americans have, and those ads are excellent in my opinion.
What did they do with the other half of it or is that on another billboard at the side of this one?
If anyone buys one of these and decides to pay me a visit, please do NOT park it in my driveway or anywhere within shouting distance of my house. Park it far away, then call me and I'll come and pick you up.
Subaru.
Japanese company. Profits go right to the same people who brought you the Zero.
(well, that was Mitsubishi)
You realize that's not an industrial base, yes? Foreign car plants are like renting an apartment.
And attaches to a convenient shower head nozzle located between the front seats.
Why 4 doors??? Can't be anyone stupid enough to ride in the back seat...Well, maybe Germans...
I used to drive one...
That was the 'GT' model...
Like I said, off topic, but your tailpipe quip brought back some old memories.
