AFSCME Greet Senator With "Run, Obama, Run" Signs
(CBS) CHICAGO -- Is Sen. Barack Obama edging closer to a run for president?
Officially, the answer is "no." But on Monday, thousands of union delegates seemed to say "yes."
CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports Obamas speech filled the hall with wild cheers.
While some waved signs urging him to run for president, virtually all 6,000 convention delegates of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees were cheering Barack Obama's message.
Invoking memories of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s march with garbage workers in Memphis, Obama asked them to help Democrats take control of Congress this November.
As long as there are those who struggle to raise a family on low wages and no benefits, I ask you to march for opportunity. As long as there are those who cant can't organize or unionize or bargain for a better life, I ask you to keep on marching for solidarity, Obama said.
Along with enthusiasm of those holding these signs, there was also a bit of skepticism.
Right now he sounds great at this big rally, but I think its a little bit too early myself, said one attendee.
But others were more enthusiastic.
I think he should run for president. I think that he could be the next president of the United States and I think that he would be if he would run, said Henry Bayer.
I think Barack Obama has demonstrated in a very strong way his ability to unite people in this country, said Roberta Lynch.
Scheduled to speak to the convention Tuesday is Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party's frontrunner for the presidential nomination.
Sources close to Obama have told CBS 2 News that Obama would reconsider his previously announced decision to skip the 2008 presidential contest only if Mrs. Clinton does not run.
Jeez Louise. Does the man have any accomplishments besides getting elected?

Yes. Osama is running, but its for cover.
Bad idea. Just think of all the Osama jokes that would be made at Obama's expense.
He's the hard left's stealth sock puppet.
Obama bin Runnin'?
Last spring Obama came to Burlington, Vermont, to the campus of U of Vt. to campaign for Bernie Sanders and Jackass congressional candidate Peter Welch. He had absolutely nothing noteworthy to say but the crowd of liberals swooned anyway. The Democrat party of the past condemned brothers based on the color of their skin. Today's Democrats put this mediocre character on a pedestal based on the color of his skin. Within a few days, several gushing liberals added OBAMA for PRESIDENT stickers to their Subaru's and Volvos. I agree with the previous post. More power to them.
Barak Osama-Obama bin lying ... so what else is new?
" Just think of all the Osama jokes that would be made at Obama's expense."
And ol' Teddy can't even pronounce his name. Remember?
Obana, Obama , Osama, Oh mana....
