TALLAHASSEE - Already lagging in the polls and facing possible ethics violations, Republican Tom Gallagher suffered another setback Friday, finishing dead last in fundraising among the four candidates for governor.
Gallagher's $45,740 in so-called hard dollars raised during July trailed fellow Republican Charlie Crist by nearly $290,000 and leading Democrat Jim Davis by about $150,000. Democrat Rod Smith raised twice as much as Gallagher.
Friday's news raised fresh speculation among Republican insiders about whether one of Florida's longest serving politicians will drop out of his fourth and likely last run for governor.
Gallagher, the state's chief financial officer, is trailing by double digits in polls and last week the state Ethics Commission found probable cause that he violated state law when he bought stock in four companies that either had state contracts or were regulated by his office. A hearing will be scheduled in the weeks ahead.

What difference does it make who I work for? If you're implying that I work for a campaign or a newspaper or anything even remotely related to politics, then you're way off base.
If you have proof the St, Pete Times is not a liberal rag please post it.
Yup... It sounds like it's time to take the Sledge-O-Matic to that campaign.
Perhaps, tom should drop out of his race and help out Katherine Harris. She is short of staff lately.
Ah, I've got it now. You're one of those people that demand proof, and then when the proof is staring you in the face, you completely ignore it and attack the source. You have contributed nothing to this thread except for questioning where I work (?relevance?) and attacking a the St. Pete Times as "a liberal rag." I'll take your word that the St. Pete Times leans liberal (like all of the MSM), but why don't you get back on topic and actually try to refute the content of the above article(s) without the knee-jerk "liberal rag" response? You may want to start with: Gallagher's consistent flip-flopping on many important issues, his dismal fundraising and polling, his recent ethical lapses, his cheating and drug use, etc.
If you eed to take my word about the St. Pete Times how the hell can you know so much about this gov. race.St Pete is owned by the NYT does that give you a clue. You must be Charlie Crists father or mother.
The SPtimes is smashing Tom now, they will get to Charlie next, and it won't be pretty. We already have a taste of what they are planning. It is a shame that Republicans buy into being used. As to Tom's changing positions, more mature candidates are always more conservative, even liberals are in their own wacky way. But I thought it was a good thing when we make a convert. I wish Charlie was a convert. He is moving to the left, in preparation for the general election. The average Republican is not paying enough attention to see the shift. It is a pity his supporters will not hold him to account. They are more interested in holding Tom to account for last decade's news.
What is Crist "liberal" on? Crist has never supported a tax increase, unlike Gallagher, who supported a tax on services as well as an additional penny sales tax. Those were definitely not conservative positions. The guy is flat out pandering to the conservative, religious base and begging them not to look at his years and years of liberal fiscal and social positions. If you read the excerpts above, you know that all of his years of flip flopping and his personal problems would be disastrous for the GOP when they were exploited by the democratic nominee.
Why such a long post if you're so sure the kevorkian look a like is going to win?
The St. Pete Times is agenda driven, far left.
Looks like propaganda to me. I thought freepers were smarter than believing everything they read in the papers. Guess not. (not regarding you per se).
If you're a nole, that tells me all I need to know.
So, which of facts reprinted above do you dispute? The ethics charges? the day trading? the drug use? the cheating? the repeated flip-flopping on core issues like taxes, guns, etc.? the piss poor fundraising and polling?
He's worse than a RINO. He's worse than a democrat. His each according to their needs soundbites remind me of Karl MARX. Seriesly.
(he's an actor, scripted, a dunderhead).
CHARLIE CRIST IS PART OF THE CULTURE OF DEATH. That's what money buys you these days. If that's what you have to embrace to get money, count me out.
Davis will beat Crist and Harris will be trounced by Nelson.
I don't know what criteria the State GOP is using to recruit canidates for statewide office, but electability certainly isn't one of them.
The St. Pete Times headline looks like PROPAGANDA to me.
