Arab leaders may hold summit on Lebanon this week

Arab leaders are considering holding an emergency summit on Lebanon in Saudi Arabia later this week, two Lebanese media outlets reported Monday.

Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal was expected to make the call during an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Beirut Monday, reported the LBC-Hayat newscast on Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. television, quoting Saudi sources.

Lebanon's As-Safir newspaper also said contacts were under way among Arab states to hold the summit in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, later this week.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was quoted as saying to As-Safir that there is agreement in principle among Arab countries to hold a summit. Moussa, who arrived in Beirut Sunday, added that chances for a summit would become clearer after the meeting of Arab foreign ministers.

The foreign ministers were expected in Beirut in the morning for the meeting, which aims to back Lebanon.

I'll save them the trouble. It's ALL the Jews Fault, and everything would be just great if Israel would cease to exist.

They will probably vote to increase funding for Hezzbollah, and give Iran and Syria awards for doing a good job fighting a proxy war against Israel...

Hezbollah is a creature of the Persians not the Arabs.

Hezbollah is popular among Arabs, though.

Perhaps among the street Arabs but that's only in the passion of the moment. The leaders know how deadly they are and how dangerous they are to the future of the Arab world. Most of those meeting will be Sunni, not Shiia. The Iranians are not only not Arab, they are Shiia, a sect considered by the Sunni to be apostates.

I just went over to look at some of the Egyptian blogs. It seems the government press is doing a real job on Hizballah, even in Lebanon. This thing is going to end up OK.

I think so. The Arab countries are in no shape what so ever for a fight.

When the arab league meets, the only thing they can agree on is how many hookers they plan to bang during the conference.

With what we know of our entire history of terrorism sourced from the Middle East, I would not bet on that as an absolute.

I know that they have that the enemy of my enemy" thing going on but I would imagine that Iran does not have a seat at the Arab meeting. The Saudis and other Sunni Arabs may back Lebanon but not the Iranian backed Hezbollah.
