So does this mean if I don't kill my parents I wont go to heaven when I die? what kind of God tells his people to murder their own family just because they are of a different religion? I thought we were fighting wars to stop that from happening? I dont understand?

Actually, the Old Testament rules and regulations don't apply to today's Christians. Christ died to free us from the law.

It means you've left out historical context.
There are lots of things God commanded in the Old Testament that are not appropriate for our day and age.
However, they were correct and perfect back then. You will have to go back to that time and culture to find out why God had to command this.
