It was announced late today that the Dixie Chicks's Oct. 5 concert at the St. Pete Times Forum in has been cancelled. Ticket holders were advised to contact their original point of purchase for refunds and information on alternate area concerts.
The Dixie Chicks camp is reporting that the tour was rerouted "to allow the group some promotion time in September around the debut of the documentary film 'Dixie Chicks' Shut Up and Sing.'"
The Dixie Chicks released the following statement: "This is a year where we weren't sure what to expect. We were prepared for a lot of things as we figure out this new phase of our career. What we weren't prepared for, however, was the overly passionate audience response at all of the stops on the tour so far. We are truly at a loss for words to explain what that has meant to us. We hope that our fans who were looking forward to a stop that is no longer on the tour will be able to join us at a nearby arena this fall, and we are sorry for any confusion or inconvenience these changes have caused."
The Dixie Chicks have been mostly blacklisted from country radio ever since singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush, despite the fact that the group's album "Taking The Long Way" is one of the biggest sellers in country music this year. The Miami Herald reports that "ticket sales in Red States have been sluggish throughout the tour."
Per today: Memphis, Knoxville, Kansas City, Houston and St. Louis, Fargo, St. Petersburg are among 14 stops no longer on the schedule.
" negotiating the now-postponed dates, the band balked at a guaranteed nightly fee of around $500,000 because the tour's promoter, Anschutz Corp.'s AEG Live, would give them only 90 percent of the ultimate gross of the show. Instead, they negotiated a deal for 95 percent of the door with no guarantee -- a move that backfired when it became clear that ticket sales were below expectations. AEG Live Chief Executive Randy Phillips couldn't be reached for comment."

Other online accounts said that the promoter was literally "high fiving" themselves in the office over it. *snickerin*
Do you prefer 'em scrambled or fried?
I like my eggs scrambled...my chickens? I like em fried extra crispy!

"On the other hand, execs at Dixie Chicks tour promoter AEG are very visibly high-fiveing one another after manager Simon Renshaw and the band turned down a 90/10 split and $30 million guarantee in favor of a 95/5 arrangement, which may have cost them as much as $20 million, with advance ticket sales reportedly soft in several Red State markets. So there ya have it...so far they have lost at least $20 Million from this debacle. :D
DC is heading straight down the tubes because they don't get it.
Always respect your fan base and there is nothing that they will not forgive you.
But for some reason people still think our last Dem holdout (Bill Nelson) is going to win.
Looks like Freeper beansox dug up the particulars (post #122).
fascinating
Their manager should be looking for another line of work right about now...
Don't snicker at somebody elses misfortune.
They'll show up at Code-Pink protests in front of Walter-Ruther Hospital.
It may seem funny to bus all the vets passed that location, and nobody'll have to get onto the intercom to notify anybody how lost those people are. It won't be funny when a single tear drips out of corners of various eyes. And somebody does a lame-assed "oooh-Rah."
I'll point out that the distinctly ironic thing is the band members of the protest group will think they're protesting George Bush and the repository of injured. The senior-citizen residents of the union icon named hopsital won't have a clue why they're being protested against. Did they miss a union dues payment or something?
Everybody on the bus will probably not even look at 'em as they pass by. There'll be some high-fiving at one point or another, there won't be any conviction in it though (as the patients of Walter-Reed enter through the gates, knowing full well that Code-Pink Warriors are protesting at Walter-Ruther hospital).
Medea Benjemin will be interviewed shortly after the protest by Laura Ingrahm (Medea will STILL have the same stupid look on her face and just why it is we hate her: despite her bleatings like an offal foal "Just what's wrong with communists?"). Of course we'll have the sensitivity not to tell her, and allow her to graze for a wee bit on clover and sweet-grass prior to crashing the #16 sledge onto her brain-case with as much force as can be multiplied by the handle in acorance to the arc of the sledge's travel and all that.
same manager that never told them to cool out
his office is down Lindsey tween Music Row and Downtown
he is known as a blustery sort
