Did you ever see the movie Scarface? South Florida was at war with Columbian, Haitian, Cuban drug gangs shooting up shopping malls and killing cops with overwhelming firepower. These policy stances were based upon Tom's consultation with LAW ENFORCEMENT, not liberals. These proposals never became law. They are not Tom's positions now. I will cut him some slack on this issue to the degree that he has now gone to bat for the individual's right to carry weapons in vehicles, which no other candidate has. Sometimes, in the face of serious threats, a little sensitivity to what our thin blue line has to say is not a revocation of the second amendment.

Most of this insurance stuff is too technical to have a political discussion about. Bottom line- Tom has weathered the storm in insurance on behalf of Floridians once, and all the responsible proposals to help now are Tom authored. All that Charlie knows about insurance, he learned from reading his own policies, or from Tom
Well said.....BUMP

The 2nd Amendent gives us the right to bear arms, and we should exercise that right. Of course people such as Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Saddam Hussein and liberal Democrats would disagree with me.
I saw the value of the Second Amendment during the LA riots in 1992 when the police couldn't protect all businesses.
Seeing the TV videos of shopkeepers protecting their stores by standing on their roofs with rifles made my gratitude for the Second Amendment even stronger!

I would like to hear the candidate clearly and unequivocally say that these are not his positions now, and apologize for his previously mistaken position. Do you know if he has done such?

Disappointed to hear Gallagher's campaign has not provided a clear and concise response to your questions, particularly on the heels of that SH!T story the other day. Neither of the two candidates appears to take a strong position on the 2nd Amendment. However, Gallagher's recent campaign leaflet is a step in the right direction.

All Crist says is that he is for the first and second amendment. They cannot come up with a detailed response because CRIST DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING about guns. They are a bunch of trial lawyers, for goodness sakes. You think Crist has ever been to a firing range? Crist spends more time with the AARP and the ACLU than w/the NRA. Trust me on that one.

Crist is silent on many issues because he thinks like a trial lawyer, and promises he will fight for Florida. Well, we can't find, we need to fix. Crist doesn't have Gallagher's problem solving capabilities.
Crist is not a problem solver and Florida needs a leader who can make plans without having to call a panel of experts (Crist idea) of leadership. Crist is lazy. That's the last thing Florida needs. A large state requires someone who is a workhorse, not a Crist and a panel of experts. Those experts he's promising are lefties, I can guarantee that.

since when do candidates have to apologize for changing their positions?
Crist should apologize in that case for believing he's got the qualifications to lead Florida because HE DOESN'T.
He's a liberal with big money behind him. Look out property owners!

Gallagher's team has been responsive to freepers starting two weeks ago. The first reply to me was in PDF format and I posted some of it here at FR. When they were advised that more detail was being requested, they got right on it. The debate Monday night juxtaposed with our additional requests. Gallagher's answer on the second amendment was far more detailed and indicative of his views than Crist's answer which was simply "I am for the first and second amendment because of our founding documents." So much for Crist's knowledge of the second amendment. Crist is all soundbite and spin.

I have liked Tom from the start...His position in the past can be just that..I just want some sort of assurance that it will not be his in the future...We have some high ups in law enforcement in the state would love to ban some guns and restrict others...The rank and file LEO's in this state feel just the opposite...I would like it much better if he would state a position other than what he did early on...We can all change over time...I just do not want to see him become Gov and then find out his position changed...I have only recently paid much attention to the Govs race..I am so use to have Jeb that all of a sudden the light has come on...LOL...
The person who gave my wife her CCW schooling knows Katherine and there is no doubt what her position on our gun rights are...That is one of the reasons she has my support but not the only one for sure...

I think law enforcement is overdoing the use of tasers. The perp is usually outnumbered to begin with and unarmed. Too many are dying by taser. It's disturbing.

I have more materials from Camp Gallagher re: the second amendment but I have emailed it to freepers who have a dog in this fight. I am not a gun person but will reconsider if I ever need to protect my home from terrorists, illegal aliens or developers.

Tom has just released his NRA candidate questionaire in PDF. He supports no assault weapons ban, and supports a wide definition of assault weapons. Please visit www.tg2006.com.

Florida gubernatorial hopeful Tom Gallagher has made public his views on firearms in the form of a filled-out questionnaire from the NRA/USF (that's "National Rifle Association / United Sportsmen of Florida").
I have put this on my own website in PDF for anyone interested.
