After months of being taunted by a gang of yobs

Trying to figure the British slang here: Are yobs the same as chavs?

I remember eight years ago when "Rolling Stone" included the last (21st) chapter along with an interview with the now deceased author. In it the now 21 year-old Little Alex is back at the Kurova Milk Bar with a new gang, wondering what to do to amuse themselves for the evening just like the opening scene. They slip out for a little mugging and brawling but there is no enjoyment in it for Alex as he moodily resumes his seat at the bar and wonders what's wrong with him.

He mulls over his misspent life and realizes that fighting, screwing and stealing just aren't cutting it anymore and gradually he comes to realize that he must be growing up. He ruminates further and with a flash decides he wants to do something really challenging and daring and become a responsible husband and father and productive citizen. With that he turns over leadership of the gang to one of his more ambitions droogies and head off into the night to seek out a new life.

Obviously such a gooey ending did not sit well with the likes of Stanley Kubrick, so he simply ended his movie version before reaching that point.
