It is in the billions. I think FedEx spent 14 million on SOX last year alone. The "sox compliance" gestapo look at EVERYTHING -- way beyond the financial statements. Their definition of "controls" go way beyond separation of duties. They actually have people who have no idea what they are doing looking a source code.

I don't know which is better -- being a SOX compliance officer (with unlimited power) or being on the receiving end (which is too funny for words).

Either way it is NVA -- at $400 an hour.

It's ironic reading this as I sit in (what was once)the Enron building (1500 Louisiana) and peruse my company's intranet offerings on SOX. These rules truly are business killers.
