BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers engaged and killed a terrorist suspected of implanting an improvised-explosive device on the side of a road north of Baghdad Tuesday night.

Soldiers from Company A, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, spotted the suspect digging a hole after curfew on the side of a road where IEDs are frequently placed.

Upon identifying the Soldiers, the man fled into a nearby tree line, and the Soldiers decided to wait for the man to return.

When the Soldiers noticed the man return to the road to continue digging, the suspect again saw the convoy and attempted to flee but was immediately engaged by the Soldiers.

"Engaged" seems so, oh, I don't know, so casual for having one's head blown off. Happy dirtnap, Achmed.

Reminds me of a British article that said two terrorists "were dispatched without further incident". They have a great way of putting things.

I *love* the Brits - they just have a real way of saying such things. Proper Queen's English. Funny as hell.

A radio transmission from a fireteam manning an ambush site at a river crossing, about a half kilometer to our right flank -- reporting a brief "encounter"..

"Six NVA crossed alone".
"None escaped".
"Bodies searched - nothing of interest found".

The strength and beauty of brevity....

I'll bet that if you ask any of our FReeper Ladies they'd tell they find our soldiers very engaging :)

"the man return to the road to continue digging"

The decision of a zealot, or one terrorized by zealots.

Baghdad Soldiers engaged and killed a terrorist...

As a general rule, I like this MUCH better than the whole Guantanamo/Supreme Court/Geneva Convention/US Courts/Public Defender/Constitutional Rights thing.....

I had a old NCO tell me that one morning after a unplanned contact and fight during the previous dusk/night, he called in his situation report with a single EIA. He got back a quick call on the EIA and explained that during the night a outlaying wounded NVA was attacked and eaten by a tiger. They heard the kill and chomping all that night but did nothing as they didn't want to give their position away and found the bastard the next morning..

When the Soldiers noticed the man return

Could be a Darwin Award qualifier.

They tried to offer him food, and pet him, but he apparently wasn't hungry and ran off.
