This was the second corruption dime to drop on Kerik. The New York Daily News reported June 30, 2006 that former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik--Rudy Guiliani's former driver, business partner and failed HomeLandSec nominee---pled guilty to accepting tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from a New Jersey firm with alleged mob connections.

This is over and above Kerik's illegal nanny problem, failure to pay taxes, and other appalling proof of Kerik's criminality, lack of respect for the law, and his cohabitation with criminals. One secret after another tumbled out after the collapse of Kerik's nomination as HomeLand Sec Secretary which was pushed onto President Bush by Guiliani.

These included an undisclosed marriage, clandestine love affairs, unsavory business ties and unreported gifts Kerik took that are prohibited to public servants.

This is the individual Rudy pushed on Pres Bush for BomeLandSec Chief. Kerik will undoubtedly be perusing FBI files if by some perverted twist of fate, Rudy gets to the WH.

One more nail in the coffin of Rudy Giuliani's presidential ambitions.

Kerik is so *dirty* we can smell him all the way out here in Penna. Phew, what a skunk.

I'm confused as to why, some of the cable channels, will have him on, as an "expert". With his track record, he couldn't convince me, that today is, Thursday, August 3rd.

Unless there's strong evidence implicating Giuliani with Kerik's misdeeds or indicating that Giuliani continued his business relationship with Kerik after those misdeeds came to light, there's plenty of reason to doubt such a scenario.

And Rudy knows where all the Kerik dirt is buried.

Kerik' reputation preceded him -- and was a poorly-kept "secret" around New York City before Giuliani named him police commissioner.

His primary qualification in the NYPD up to that point was that he had been Giuliani's personal driver. Now if that doesn't raise a red warning flag . . .

FYI . . . Kerik actually had an open warrant for his arrest at the time he was nominated by the Bush administration to the post of Homeland Security chief (with Giuliani's recommendation).

Just think about that for a second.

His nomination was withdrawn (i.e., he was dropped like a hot potato by the Bush administration and dumped out on his @ss) after a copy of this warrant was faxed to the White House in the days leading up to his confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate.

Nice, very nice take.

The New York Daily News reported June 30, 2006 that Kerik himself pled guilty to accepting tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from mob types.

This is over and above one sordid secret after another that tumbled out after the collapse of Kerik's nomination as HomeLand Sec Secretary which was pushed onto President Bush by Guiliani......Kerik's illegal nanny problem, failure to pay taxes, and other appalling proof of Kerik's criminality, lack of respect for the law, and his cohabitation with criminals.

This is the individual Rudy pushed on Pres Bush for BomeLandSec Chief. Would you want Kerik perusing your FBI files, if by some perverted twist of fate, Rudy gets to the WH?

Guilt by association can raise red flags, but by itself, it's not strong evidence that Giuliani participated in a cover-up, or even that Giuliani had reason to believe that the rumors were anything more than whispers in the hall.

What have we come to when an undisclosed marriage, clandestine love affairs, unsavory business ties and unreported gifts are enough to keep one from high appointed office? Sheesh!

Actually, the part about the Kerik fiasco I like is that he had to sell a $hitload of Taser stock in a hurry to avoid the appearance of a conflict if he were to become DHS secretary. I think he netted about $6M from that sale. Then it all goes south for Bernie, and for Taser. He doesn't get the job, but circumstances got him out of the stock at its peak.

An arrest warrant for what?

If **I** knew that Kerik was a crooked, greasy SOB before he was recommended by Giuliani for the post of homeland security director, then Giuliani did, too.

If I knew that Kerik was a crooked, greasy SOB before he was recommended by Giuliani for the post of homeland security director and Giuliani did not know this, then Giuliani is barely even qualified to dress himself in the morning -- let alone serve as President of the United States.

If you look at the top of this thread and read through the excerpted items from the article, you'll see a reference to an "extensive makeover of Kerik's apartment."

From what I understand, there was a legal dispute over this "makeover" of the apartment in question between Kerik and a subcontractor who did the work. The subcontractor claimed he wasn't paid in full for his work, and pursued legal action against both Kerik and the shady construction company that was paying for the work. A warrant was issued for Kerik's arrest after he repeatedly failed to abide by court orders to appear in civil court for hearings related to this lawsuit.

What's the big deal? Rudy Giuliani runs a company that deals with "security consulting," yet he's got absolutely zero expertise in this area.
