Our Bill of Rights contains the Second Amendment which was established for a reason -- to allow the people to arm to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. Now we ask, why are libs so against the population being LEGALLY armed?? Just read the second amendment, compare that to the agenda of the left...and your question is answered.

A sober summation of an important right and responsibility. I didn't know there was such a thing as an armed liberal.

Good advice. Corollary to the way I feel about voting...

I might still be pissed about having it stolen but it wouldn't weigh on me.

Good article, but I wish the Left would apply the same logic to the 1st. Too many weasel abusing their free speech without thought to the consequence [hi Bill Keller]

Good post but if you own one, get two and quite a bit of ammo.
Practice with them and clean them regulary. Handle them til you feel comfortable with them.

An "armed liberal" is someone who would be willing to give up his firearm in the event of an alleged "civil emergency".

Yes guns can be dangerous, so can many other items; more people die in auto accidents in the US than from guns. Are you legally required to wait 10 days for a car purchase? No. Are you legally required to lock your car? No. Are you legally required to demonstrate competance to drive a car on your own property? No. Neither is a car a magic talisman to make you better looking or whatever.
I guess its clear that while this guy is semi-OK (he does own guns) he is still a liberal. Too bad. The idea that the state has to certify you are OK to own a gun is just wrong. As is the idea that the state should limit you to certain types of guns. Yes you should learn how to use them properly and to store them safely. That said, you should be the judge of that until a court of law proves otherwise.

This article reminds me of the Nazis' decision not to invade Switzerland during WWII. The reasons:
1. The terrain was so mountainous that it would be difficult to transport guns, tanks, etc.
2. In Switzerland every adult man is required to own a gun and be proficient in its use.
The Swiss are crack shots, and there are many social events in which target practice and competition are the main activities. An armed populace is hard to subdue.

And if you aren't 100 percent sure that five of your closest friends would answer the same way, think hard before you head to the gun store. They'd better. Or ELSE!

owning a gun doesn't by itself make you a whole lot safer; famed firearms instructor Jeff Cooper said that "owning a gun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a piano makes you a musician." Great comment.

A very good article. I have wanted to get a gun for years. But being disorganized, I have not because I did not want someone to get hurt - grandkids. I am still thinking about it though.

The issue of gun ownership really comes down to personal responsibility.
If they don't value personal responsibility as an important foundation of society, or you don't believe that society is capable of exercising it, then private gun ownership is going to be something they consider a threat to that society.
However, a free and democratic society cannot succeed without a strong foundation of personal responsibility by it's citizens.

I've taken a number of firearms classes, including range safety, tactical training, ccw class, and several weapon specific classes for shotgun, pistol, and revolver.
I value what I've learned in the classroom more than what I learned on the range. The tactical class was taught by local Sheriff's deputies, they stressed mindset, the will to fight, the will to keep fighting, situational awareness, etc.
The CCW class spent an inordinate amount of time going over the legalities of when to shoot, who to shoot, and the consequences.
Valuable lessons all.

Are You 'Right' To Own A Gun? Yes. End of story. If someone needs an explanation, just have them read the 2nd Amendment. That's really all that's necessary.

While I don't disagree with any of his sensible points on gun responsibility, his tone suggested that he is very comfortable with the idea of him owning a gun, but is queasy on others having the same rights.
Not much different than Rosie O'Donnell believing solely in the second amendment rights of her bodyguards.

A good article full of good common sense. Thankfully, most legal gun owners and those that concealed carry have this level of responsibility.
I only wish people took their right to vote as responsibly and used forethought and understanding of the issues before going to vote.
