Thats what I am saying, why would they need to speak English to communicate with women from Scandanavia? Wouldn't it be they can't speak Norwegion or Swedish? That leaves me to conclude they were Scandanavian in looks.
I see, but it is well known that in Europe most people with any education know English. It's kinda interesting as there are many married couples where one person is German for instance, but the other is Polish. Neither speak the other's native language but they communicate with each other in English.
While Spanish may someday become the US language, English is thriving as the international language of choice throughout the world.
From a previous story on whay I assume is the same incident:
Topless Swede causes Albanian alert

A Swedish tourist caused a military alert in an Albanian village when she decided to indulge in a bit of topless sunbathing.
The woman was part of a tourist group that stopped by at the beach. According to Aftonbladet, Albanian women on the beach fled with their children and called the police, shocked by the sight of the scantily clad tourist.
A military patrol was sent to the scene, the paper quoted Italian daily Corriere della Sera as reporting. The soldiers were unable to do anything, however, as they couldn't communicate with the woman.

BTW: Scandinavians generally speak English quite well, and English is the "International" language. If I run into an Albanian my best hope is that he/she knows English, as the odds of that person being fluent in any of the Scandinavian languages is quite small.
Cheers.
