British Prime Minister Tony Blair: "This is a global fight about global values."

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The conflict in the Middle East, as well as others involving Muslim extremists, revolve around "modernization within Islam" and whether the Western system of values can "beat theirs," British Prime Minister Tony Blair said in a speech Tuesday.
Speaking to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, Blair went on to say that the struggle was between moderate, benign values versus the hatred and intolerance of fundamentalism.
"Even the issue of Israel is just part of the same wider struggle for the soul of the region," Blair said. "If we recognize this struggle for what it truly is, we would be at least along the first steps of the path to winning it. But I fear a vast part of Western opinion is not remotely near this yet."
He added, "Whatever the outward manifestation at any one time -- in Lebanon, in Gaza, in Iraq, and add to that in Afghanistan, in Kashmir, in a host of other nations, including now some in Africa -- this everywhere is a global fight about global values.
"It's about modernization within Islam and out of it. It's about whether our value system can be shown to be sufficiently robust, true, principled and appealing that it beats theirs."

Faithful, devout Muslims are radical and militant (or support the miltancy). Muslims who are not so devout are passive, and tolerant to the degree that they may achieve materialistic goals.
Materialism destroys Islam, just as destroys Christianity.
It is in large part the reason why radical Muslims have become so outraged and irate at the West. The West has sufficient prosperity and material wealth to share with the world, especially the Muslim world and many Muslims are buying into it (pun intended).
That is why Al Qaida hates the Saudi rulers. They have been corrupted by their vast wealth from Western dollars.
Most of the wealth that exists in the MidEast comes from the wallets of the West and they really really resent that.
Blood is being spilled in 14, or so, areas around the world with a single common denominator.....Islam.
Too bad not many in the West care to fight for our values.
Blair's got a really tough row to hoe... his Drive By Media is 10x worse than ours.
A Muslim woman was walking down my street today with two children. She was wearing jeans but one of those little hoods to cover her hair. It was above 90 and very humid. I thought, "I wonder what it is like to wear that thing today?" Just then, she reached up and pulled the thing off, and shook out her hair and ran her hands through it. She continued walking that way.
She probably put it on before she got home so Mohammed wouldn't beat the $h1t out of her, but at least it is a start.

No real Muslim can be a benign westerner. If you are a real Muslim, you have to be a violent jihadist, for that is the true Islam. Blair is mistaking the Westernized Islam of the 1900s-1950s as the real thing. The real thing is the violent death cult.

HADITHA DAM, Iraq (July 27, 2005) -- As the Marines with 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment continue their fight in the Global War on Terrorism, most of them think of it as business and not personal.
However, for some Marines who are of the Islamic faith, the war in Iraq hits a personal note. Cpl. Mohammed N. Rahman, who is a Sunni Muslim, fights not only to free the people of Iraq from the insurgents grip and to protect his country (America), but also to redeem his beloved religion.
“This is a personal offense, not only to me but others who share my faith,” said the 23-year-old infantryman with 2nd Platoon, Company L. “The insurgents have scarred the image of my religion.”
Rahman was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh where he learned to speak Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and Arabic during his childhood, before moving the United States with his family at age 12.
Upon arriving in America, he strove to learn the English language while adjusting to the busy and culturally different society.
He joined the Marine Corps in 2001 because of its discipline and its tradition that closely mirrored the practices of his beliefs..........
