A FIREFIGHTER'S GLOVES

A Firefighters Gloves hold many things
From elderly arms to a kids broken swing
From the hands they shake and the backs they pat
To the tiny claw marks of another treed cat
From the DWI who was on her way home
And the equipment they use to roll back the dash
From a family of 6 she involved in the crash

The brush rakes in spring wear the palms out
When the wind does a "90" to fill them with doubt
The thumb of the glove wipes the sweat from the brow
Of the face of a firefighter who mutters "What now"

They hold inch and three quarters flowing one seventy five
So the ones going in, come back out alive
When the regulator goes; then there isn't too much,
But the bypass valve they eagerly clutch

  The rescue equipment, the ropes, the C-collars;
The lives that they save never measured in dollars
Are the obvious things firefighters gloves hold
Or, so that is what I've been always told

But there are other things Firefighters Gloves touch
Those are the things we all need so much

They hold back the rage on that 3 am call
They hold in the fear when your lost in a hall
They hold back the pity, agony, sorrow
They hold in the desire to "Do it tomorrow"

A gloves just a glove till it's on firefighters
Who work all day long just to pull an all-nighter
And into the fray they charge without fear
At the sound of a "Help" they think that they hear

When firefighters hands go into the glove
It's a firefighter who always fills it with love
Sometimes the sorrow is too much to bear
And it seeps the glove and burns deep "in there"

Off comes the gloves when the call is done
And into the pocket until the next run
The hands become lonely and cold for a bit
And shake just a little thinking of it

And they sit there so red eyed with their gloves in  their coats
The tears come so fast that the furniture floats
They're not so brave now; their hands they can't hide
I guess it just means that they're human inside

And though some are paid and others are not
The gloves feel the same when it's cold or it's hot
To someone you're helping to just get along
When you fill them with love, you always feel strong

And so when I go on my final big ride
I hope to have my gloves by my side
To show to St. Peter at that heavenly gate
Cause as everyone knows, firefighters don't wait.

  Thank God

Hit and run post because I have been snowed under with work:

In 1993 we had a house fire. Firemen came busting in totally unconcerned for their own well-being to get my wife, dogs and most important possessions out of the house. While they were doing that there were other firemen dousing the flames.

After the fire was out and things had calmed down they were the among the nicest people I have met and very helpful.

A smart, sharp, crispy, military salute to all firemen! You'll never hear me say anything negative about firemen and if I hear someone else say anything negative about firemen there is going to be a fight!

Today's FEEBLE

YOKE :

Visiting a seriously ill lawyer in the hospital, his friend found him sitting up in bed, anxiously leafing through the Bible.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Looking for loopholes,” was the lawyer’s reply.

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

OUR MILITARY AND ALLIED MILITARY ROCK

Thank you, Connie, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities. A day to honor the firefighters of the World. I love that little fire truck speeding over to put the fire out. And, that fireman/angel ice sculpture is so awesome. A little "by-the-way" tidbit ~ Celticlass's son is a DC fireman.

Another HOT HOT day in DC Metroland. They're assuring us that the cooler temps will be here starting tomorrow.

Ah, the dog days of summer.

My oldest granddaughter is up from Florida and we've managed to snag her for a couple of days before she goes back this weekend. So, today I am working at home so we can be together. And, tomorrow is my day off, so we will get to go somewhere, do something then. But, of course, it could be raining by then.

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

Good Morning troops! Good Morning everyone! On the thread it mentioned that Dalmatians were sometimes used as fire dogs, but it doesn't mention why. At a fire fighting class for Sea Cadets we were told that it was because they were usually hard of hearing and so were less likely to be scared and then scare the horses. Here's today's humor attempt!

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children fell to discussing the dog's duties.

"They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster.

"No," said another, "he's just for good luck."

A third child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."
