He may be one of the most influential politicians in the world but even Prime Minister Tony Blair succumbed to the larger-than-life charms of movie star turned California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Blair, on an official visit to Washington and California, met the former body-builder this week to launch an agreement between California and Britain to reduce global warming.
"I phoned my wife and she said to me, 'How did you feel meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger?'" Blair told guests at a Los Angeles luncheon on Tuesday.
"I said I felt acute body envy, actually," confessed Blair, whose fitness regime consists of pounding the treadmill and the odd game of tennis.
Blair, 53, also joked that he was astonished to learn that he was the first British prime minister in 150 years to have a legitimate child while in office. His wife Cherie gave birth to their fourth child, Leo, in May 2000.
"I don't know what the hell the other prime ministers were doing, really," Blair quipped.
Really
"Blair on Schwarzenegger"?
I'm betting that headline was written in San Francisco.
Always thought him a charming guy with a high level of integrity. I wish he would defund the BBC though.
He's one of the few socialists i like.
That's actually pretty funny.
I suspect Blair is a closet conservative.
At least he's honest... heh heh
WHY????
Uh, so what? Where is the news here? The media is desperate.
I suspect you are probably right. Unfortunately, after John Major, it'll still be a few years before a conservative can be elected in Britain.
Hey, at least its not another Christie Brinkley story on the front page of all the NY tabloids while the Middle East is tearing itself apart and Castro lay dying.
That can't be a real photo.
"I suspect Blair is a closet conservative"
I suspect that you're not familiar with his policies!
British humor is great. Probably America's will get there eventually with all this online retorting. Or we have it already, but it's not PC to say it, like Bush on Donaldson. Funny, but ewww, we wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings!
And man, I hope that's a doctored before/after pic.
