California Governor: Schwarzenegger Leads by Six
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 1,2006

Posted on 08/02/2006 8:05:36 AM PDT by AmericanMade1776

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has a six-point lead over Phil Angelides (D) 47% to 41% in the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll (see crosstabs). The Governor leads by 18-points among men but trails by six among women.

A poll earlier this month showed the race to be a toss-up. Earlier Rasmussen Reports polls of this race have ranged from a toss-up to a 13 point lead for the Governor in April. The current results are comfortably in the middle of that range.

Governor Schwarzenegger earns approval from 55% of the state's voters for the way he has handled his job. That’s up four points from 51% in our previous poll. That includes 23% who Strongly Approve, while 22% Strongly Disapprove.

47% - 41% means that more then half the people here don't want either of them. Can we get a none of the above on the ballot?

He'll be re-elected. Look at those job approval numbers. Angelides has found no traction and there are three months to go to November.

Well, I know most California freepers hate hearing this, but watch this election closely. Taking certian RINO positions on social issues is the only way Republicans can win in California these days. Arnold is not a conservative, and neither, alas, is my beloved home state. But California is certainly not doomed to be liberal, either.

The job approval numbers is very good news.

I'll make an extra effort to stay in CA through the election just so I can cast my vote.

The only freepers who hate hearing that are those deluding themselves about CA.

Well, I know most California freepers hate hearing this

I challenge the accuracy of that statement.

Most of the accounts that frequent the California Topic accept that the Austrian will probably win by a substantial margin and those that are partisan are obviously rejoicing in that knowledge.

Here are the things that California freepers hate hearing on this forum

1) The Austrian is a Republican
2) The Austrian is conservative
3) The CAGOP supports the Austrian
4) The Austrian has held the line on taxes
5) A liberal like the Austrian is the best that Republicans can hope for in California.

6% isn't a strong lead and neither was his position regarding 187.

He's none of the above of course. No one else could win in California this year but a liberal. Conservatives in California don't like it but in a Democratic state like this, the facts of life must be squarely faced as they are.

Read his job approval ratings again. When Angelides had to bring in Clinton, you know that guy's campaign is dead in the water.

No one else could win in California this year but a liberal.

I challenge that assumption.

The Austrian got elected just 3 years ago because he pretended to be a conservative.

A conservative, or even Mickey Mouse, could beat Angelides because he is an absolutely weak candidate.

A Republican conservative could easily have challenged Angelides but the CAGOP closed the primary.
