Arnold's Truthful Talk on Immigration
San Diego, Calif., Union-Tribune ^ | August 2, 2006 | Ruben Navarrette

Posted on 08/02/2006 6:02:13 AM PDT by PDR

We teach our children that, if they tell the truth, they won't get into trouble.

It didn't work out that way for California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, during a series of town hall meetings last week, put his finger on an unpleasant -- but undeniable -- facet of the immigration debate and got pummeled for it by right-wing talk radio hosts and bloggers who can't accept the truth.

Schwarzenegger warns that we are entering "a dangerous area.'' He thinks we shouldn't blame those who want to come to America but rather the federal government, which is "not securing our borders.'' In an interview with the editorial board of The San Diego Union-Tribune before the town hall meetings, he called illegal immigration "a self-inflicted wound.'' Along with 70 percent of California voters in a recent Field Poll, he supports comprehensive reform that includes secure borders, guest workers and legalization of undocumented immigrants.

Schwarzenegger told the newspaper that he believes in redemption and thinks the American people do as well. They "like to see that you have done things (to make up) for the mistake you made -- because we all make mistakes,'' he said. Above all, the governor wants to elevate the tenor of what has become a nasty public debate and see it conducted "in a civil way without prejudice and without hatred.''

Later, after meeting with angry constituents who yelled slogans such as "stop the invasion,'' Schwarzenegger told reporters the encounter was "pretty much the first time I had seen the intensity of prejudice.''

Does Arnold know that there is a network of Filipinos in California, many right in the Sacramento area, who have "overstayed" their "visit" and are here illegally?

They are a very sophisticated, intelligent network with lawyers who forge documents for them. I have names, addresses and phone numbers but NOTHING IS DONE!!!!

Hey Arnold, clean up your own backyard before you start criticizing the Federeal Government. You sound like Ray Nagin.

Yeah, it is someone else's fault. Arnold is pandering to the Hispanic constituency who make up one in every three Californians.

Jahwohl!!!!! Only GURLIE men object to someone stealing our country, our culture and our language and oppose the rights of other Americans to hire cheap illegal slave labor.

Right on Gubernator. Once again you demonstrate that your muscle power isn't in your brain.

You are the racist, PDR.

You are dead on correct. Race baiting (injecting race into a debate where it has no legitimate place, for the sole purpose of heightening and exploiting racial tension in order to stifle the debate) is one of the most virulent forms of racism.

Is that supposed to shame me?

Nothing seems to shame you. Oh yeah, your position is the invaders using stolen and counterfeit papers filling up our hospital emergency rooms and holding their hands out for more assistance from the stupid gringos just want to be free and should be left alone or even welcomed.

Next you'll probably be wanting murderers and rapists released from our prisons, after all they just want to be free. Well maybe you'll only want those from south of the border released.

The only good thing about Arnold is that he was more to the Right than Gray-out Davis.

I would dispute that. Arnold has approved more pro-gay legislation than Davis ever did. He approved a Seirra Nevada Conservancy that scared Davis so badly he vetoed it. He hired Davis' former chief of staff. He has increased spending faster and with less excuse.

Blaming Mexicans for coming into the country is like blaming ants for coming into your house. Its just what they do and you're wasting your time and energy being mad at them. Get the can of RAID and use it!

Now...if you have a can of RAID in the closet and refuse to use it...the ants will eventually take over AND you're still wasting your time blaming the ants. If you, the home owner, are unwilling to defend your house from the ants, you don't deserve the house.

An interesting analogy... are you suggesting we gas them as they come over the border?

Nope, it just makes everyone aware on this thread that there can't be any meaningful debate with you.

Which Arnold speaks the truth?

Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer Wednesday, April 20, 2005

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged federal officials to beef up enforcement and secure the state's borders against illegal immigrants, saying Tuesday they must clean up a "lax situation" instead of "trying to run the other way."

"Close the borders. Close the borders in California, and all across Mexico and the United States," Schwarzenegger told hundreds of newspaper publishers at Newspaper Association of American convention the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

"Because I think it is just unfair to have all of those people coming across, and to have the borders open the way it is," the California governor said. "We in California have to still finish the border. That is the key thing -- to have borders and to keep the law, enforce the law."...snip.

Absolutely.
And when someone says they don't blame the illegal aliens for breaking our laws, what does that mean? Of course you must blame someone for a transgression. If you understand why they did it, that's fine, but to say they are not to blame is the highest form of silliness. Someone is not to blame if they did something not knowing it was wrong, or if what they did indeed wasn't wrong. The only ones blameless in this would be children brought over by their parents.

Well, naturally if you fear you are losing the debate, one tactic (and the general tactic of the left, it would seem) is to pull out the big guns, and what bigger gun is there than calling your opponent racist or xenophobic. Fortunately, it has lost alot of it's sting as it has been so clearly and publicly overused.

"Schwarzenegger warns that we are entering "a dangerous area.'' He thinks we shouldn't blame those who want to come to America but rather the federal government, which is "not securing our borders.''"

Arnold baby, is pulling bait and switch along with doubletalk and pandering to avoid having to look like he MUST deal directly with the issue of illegals in California...

It is true that the majority of the blame for not dealing with securing our country's borders rests solely on the shoulders of our federal government, simply because the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES says so. And it is quite obvious that the feds are derelict of duty. That fact cannot be changed however badly some lame politician/person wishes to do so.

Now, for California and Schwartzenegger. He IS the govenor of that great state. His state constitution obligates him to protect that state from illegal activity. He IS quite clearly not doing so. Mr. Schwarzenegger IS DERELICT OF DUTY. So, the moral is: Get over it Arnold baby and do your job!

Another tactic. If you are losing the argument, rather than come up with honest debating points, make fun of your opponant.

The reason(s) the illegals are here is quite simple: there are no consequences for doing so & only a better life.

This situation must be changed.
