I have been running my own informal, non-scientific poll for several months. I live in a Blue state and we lost my county to the donks on the presidential balolot, but picked up pubbies for state seats in 2004.
Everyone is pissed off and cynical, but those who voted for the GOP last time will do so again, even if they have to hold their noses.
No one I have spoken to will change their vote from last time, but some on both sides will stay home.

Reformed. I was very involved in the 1998 National elections which was also was the 6th year of Clinton's presidency. I volunteered for a Candidate who was close to Newt Gingrich, and the GOP in early September 1998 predicted boldly that they would win 20 to 30 House seats based on the Lewinsky scandal and other domestic issues. Now the Economy was strong at that point, but Clinton was under fire for lying to a Grand Jury and the Republicans thought would win big in the House. They overplayed their hand ended up losing 3 GOP seats and Newt Gingrich resigned. We were in shock. Charlie Cook is an able predictor but only works with polls not intangibles. He predicted doomsday for Bush in the Summer of 2004.

And this is all fine and dandy until the market pushes up the prices for gas
Sure, history teaches that energy makes and breaks a civilization. British power was based on coal. America rose to power with oil. British power faded because they stayed stuck on coal too long. Our power will fade if we stay stuck on oil.

I'd rather see us a bit scared and playing defense than be overconfident.

"I love this statement that comes from the question." Are you happy with the direction the country is heading? "
Hell no. Abortion, gay marriage, socialism, terrorist apologists running rampant, taxation, all of those things are absolutely horrible to think about, and yet they are all gaining in our country. PLEASE STOP the advance of liberalism!!!!!
Excellent points.
A follow-up question might have been...
Do you think any congress will ever put the country on the right heading?
My dream is that the philosophy that "the government that governs less governs best..." were adopted by a political party.
Unfortunately this appears to be a non-partisan fantasy.

Right reformed I agree. What happens is every election cycle the weak knee republicans hear of a Robert Novak, Gallup, or Charlie Cook prediction and start freaking out in August. Summer Polling is the Fool's Gold of Politics.

And as november approaches people start worrying how they will be able to afford the oil to keep the homes warm BANG! Bullseye!
When heating oil hits $3.00, $3.50, $4.00 _a gallon_, watch for this issue to "heat up" quickly. Especially for working folks without lots of disposable income or old folks on fixed incomes.
The Republicans better have an "explanation" to offer for the financial hurt that many will endure, because the 'rats are gonna jump right in and try to kill us with this issue. The Democrats will promise "to do something". It makes no difference that there is nothing of substance behind the Democratic curtain; this has the potential to knock the Pubbies out of power, right into the cold.
There has been little in the way of "explanations" offered so far (yes, yes, I already _know_ "it's the market at work"; but try selling that to the electorate, to the guy in the street who's wondering where the $$ is coming from to pay the heating oil company).
Having said that, I don't really think this is going to be a good year to be a Republican candidate....
(and btw, I will never, NEVER, N-E-V-E-R vote Democratic again)

It will be much worse than that. This world is on the edge of all out war and the perceived invincibility of the USA is the only thing stopping it. If the Dems take control, they have moved so far Commie Left politically that our enemy's will feel, "there's no better time than now."

Don't believe everything you read on FR.
Especially if it makes you happy.
Europe made the decision not to compete with China and the third world, which will mean higher unemployment, but an overall better quality of life.
To: Hong Kong Expat
Hong Kong, Europe appeased China because they are afraid of them. They knew that America would protect the World from the Commie Tinnamen Square Killing Chinese. Is that not why the British gave up Hong Kong?

Yes, like him or not, he has been very accurate in his predicitions. We had better pay attention.
