This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.
Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)
The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.
A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.
Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.
Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.
"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.
The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.
His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.
Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."
Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)
First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!
btw, keeping weight off at Jackie's age is a WHOLE lot easier than keeping it off at Laura's age!)
you're welcome :)
Mine is in the 64-66 range and has been since 2000 or so.
Before that, when I was still in high school and especially when I was in wrestling, I was down in the 50s....
Incidentally........did you pay $10,000 to get your picture taken with him, or did you just see him as he came through the line, and how did you get your picture taken with him, in that case?
(You don't have to answer that question about the money! ;)
I mean, if you were young and wrestling, and it was still in the 50's, it gives some perspective on how GOOD his heart rate really is.
I hope he lives to be 100!
Awww...we're always our mom's babies.
I'll wipe the sweat off the keys between posts when I come back. :)
Glad to hear our CIC is in good health
Thank you for this day's Dose!
Congrats on the Toaster get today.
Fine looking Soldier you have there
Blessings, MamaB. May you feel God's hand on your shoulder and feel His comfort.
Well, not quite that much ... but understand, it was a 'fund raiser' for an excellent cause.
Also, without going into details, we were guests of a major corporate entity (a name you would recognize immediately) who, as a matter of course, make large political contributions.
The family quarters has a kitchen. Did you ever see the pix of Jerry Ford making his own toast?
And, yes, I do spend way too much time thinking about people's eating habits. I'd be fat as a pig if I didn't watch my own, so it carries over. :-)
Thank you!!
I am loving all the glitter fonts! :-D
I like that font because it looks like the Disney logo (and they pay our mortgage).
CONGRATULATIONS to President Bush for pursuing the active, disciplined life style necessary to remain a healthy, handsome, '5-fan' stud at the 'middle' age of 60!!
POLLING UPDATE . . .
Despite a tough war, high gas prices, and constant bashing by (media) elitists on both the left AND right, President Bush continues to maintain a job approval rating in the 40s -- under similar circumstances, Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, and Bush 41 posted JA ratings in the 20s/low 30s!
GALLUP/USATODAY
7/28-30/06 40% approve 56% disapprove (-16; UP from -34 in May)
[82% approval from Republicans -- who actually constitute at least 51% of the electorate, yet are routinely sampled at a mere 25-32%.)
http://poll.gallup.com/
RASMUSSEN
7/29-31/06 40% approve 58% disapprove
[I find it highly suspicious that Gallup's JA ratings for the President have been higher than Rasmussen's JA ratings lately . . . Rasmussen seems to be playing with his sampling formula again -- LOTS OF HIDDEN AGENDAS!]
BOTTOMLINE: If the MSM pollsters put the President's JA rating at 40%, you can accurately assume that his rating is actually closer to 45% - 48% among 'adults' and 48% - 51% among 'likely voters'!]

Israel Advances, Stock Markets Rally?
By Lawrence Kudlow
The U.S. stock market and world equity bourses are important measures of fear, hope, security, and the health of the world's economy. And while you might not know it from today's magnified headlines about war, terrorism, higher oil prices, and rising interest rates, the stock market message is one of reasonable hope, confidence, and optimism about the state of the world.
Could it also be that world stock markets are rallying as Israel and its freedom agenda advances toward a Hezbollah-free Lebanese border, highlighting a significant defeat not only of the thuggish and cowardly Hezbollah murderers, but their totalitarian backers in Syria and Iran?
At the close of business last Friday -- after another violent week in the Middle East -- Bloomberg chronicled the impressive performance of world stock markets: U.S. share prices had their best gain since November 2004; Canadian and European stocks had their top weekly performances all year; British and Brazilian equities rose for the second straight week; Asian stocks posted their strongest gain in over a month; Japan was up 3.5 percent; and India surged near 6 percent.
