A 19-year-old man was arrested after authorities said he shined a laser pointer at a police helicopter.

The bright green laser beamed into the cockpit late Monday night, temporarily blinding the officers, said Melissa Klein, an NYPD spokeswoman.

Police arrested Anthony Pepe a short time later, and charged him with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, Klein said.

...and I'm sure it was shined into the pets eyes, and guess what. Nothing.

Try shining it into your own eyes, just to be sure.

The green lazers on the link I posted above are strong enough to pop a balloon from across a room.

Stand still while I fire this thing into your eye.

Could NOT find a single word about any harm or death from lazer pens.

Try spelling it correctly, you might have more luck. Hint: It's LASER.

If I told you I have had lazers PENS aimed at me and my eyes with no problem, you prolly wouldn't believe it. So why don't YOU try to find a news article that shows a person was really harmed in any way from a lazer pen.

see post #40 and show me that name/names of real people that have been blinded by a lazer pen

Your googleplex garbage is just generalised info, mostly about the good use of lazers...

Actually your own search is garbage, because you've misspelled your primary search term. This will yield pages only from people who know little or nothing about LASERs.

I CAN spell urban legend. Were talking about hand held laser pens, and I'm looking for a name of somebody blinded by one.

Here's a good article on the subject. By the way, I found it on my first search attempt.

Yes, for good reason. Most people with common sense knows you don't point these things at the eyes of humans.

This includes wrestlers in a ring, drivers and pilots.

But that does not make a pointer a weapon. That assertion is more asinine liberal dogma. Certainly the youth committed a crime and should be charged. But there was no weapon.

You haven't been keeping track of the latest green lasers. There's an outfir called Wicked Lasers.

Their high-end 1-watt green laser? They have a video of it lighting a cigarette

Folks, we are talking a type of laser in the 80mW power range. That is 16 TIMES more powerful that your typical laser pointer.

See the link on my prior post. Lasers now available go up to a full watt, can pop balloons and light cigarettes

Mayo Clinic

Green Laser Pointer Can Cause Eye Damage EMBARGOED: Hold for release until Monday, May 9 at 3 p.m. CDT Archives of Ophthalmology ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Mayo Clinic ophthalmologists have found commercially available Class 3A green laser pointers can cause visible harm to the eye's retina with exposures as short as 60 seconds. The findings will be published in the May issue of Archives of Ophthalmology, http://archopht.ama-assn.org.

Dennis Robertson, M.D., Mayo Clinic ophthalmologist, conducted investigations with a green laser pointer directed to the retina of a patient's eye; the eye was scheduled for removal because of a malignancy. The green laser damaged the pigment layer of the retina, although it did not cause a measurable decrease in the visual function of the patient's eye. Dr. Robertson believes that longer exposures could harm vision, however. He also warns about potential damage from higher-powered green laser pointers.

"With the use of laser pointers that are more powerful than five milliwatts, there would likely be damage to the actual vision," he says. "Functional damage could occur within seconds."

Dr. Robertson does not advocate against use of green laser pointers; rather, he advocates against their misuse. "Green laser pointers are not a public health hazard at this time, but something people should be aware of," he says. "I'm raising concerns that people should be cautious when using green laser pointers not to point them at someone's eye or face. It's like how you use your knife -- carefully."

So much for googling. Try Dogpile.

http://www.megalaser.com/120mw.htm

that is a laser "pen"

notice: "lights matches, pops balloons, burns black rubber/plastic"

120mW is not a toy.
